Traffic Receiver, not plugged in, still works

Of course, this probably makes sense..but I was still suprised when I noticed I was receiving traffic updates even though I forgot to plug the receiver into the cigarette lighter...

con: MY c530

I see that you were talking about traffic alerts. I have a c530 and I don't know how to use my traffic option, could you possibly walk me though it or explain it to me. Please dumb it down.

Evidently, your gpsr is

Evidently, your gpsr is battery operated. Mine has to be plugged into the cigarette lighter or it doesn't work.

My 660 came with the GTM 20

My 660 came with the GTM 20 traffic receiver and a three month free subscription. The receiver is integrated into the power cord. I did not have to do anything to set it up, just plug it into the Nuvi windshield mount and the cigarette lighter. If there is slow traffic in the area an icon shows up on the display with a "!". If I touch the icon, it gives more information.

And yes, the 660 has an internal battery..

Don't do it for too long

If you want to see how long a battery on a 660 DOESN'T last, run the GPS and the Traffic receiver without it being plugged in. Your battery was powering both the receiver and the GPS and will continue to do so until it goes flat.

Draining the battery

I often do just that to drain the battery rather than leaving the unit constantly plugged and always charging.
