New Nuvi 700 series

I am confused about the new 700 line that is coming out. The 760 appear to support two traffic receivers. The TMC Traffic receiver and the MSN Traffic receiver. What is not clear is when you decide to purchase, do you have a choice... Or, do you have to take what they decide to bundle in and if you want the other you have to go spend the extra money for the other receiver?

Whats in the box with the Nuvi 700 series...

Nuvi's have the following:

750 has no FM traffic receiver or MSN Direct reciever. (comes with a car power cord)
760 has FM traffic receiver w/ vehicle power cable.
770 has FM traffic receiver w/ vehicle power cable.

So you would have to purchase the MSN Direct, if you wanted that service with any of the three new units.

The Nuvi 750 would require you to purchase TM Traffic receiver OR the MSN Direct receiver, should you elect to have traffic service.

Could I take the MSN Direct

Could I take the MSN Direct service and cable from my 680 and attach it to a new 750?

I got a 680 in August, not realizing the 700s were coming out. The irony is, a new 680 has a higher MSRP than the 7xx ones.

Don't think so...

I don't believe you'll be able to do that. The 12V cable input for the 680 resembles a USB input (tiny) that pops into the back of the cradle, while the 750 input via the car power cable looks larger - similar to a cell phone charger input, that is input to the side of the cradle. Could be wrong - but don't think you can get there from here.

swapping parts

I asked Garmin if I could use the GTM 20 from my 660 on a 750 and the power cable from the 750 on a 660 and here is their response....

Yes, you will be able to use the GTM 20 with the Nuvi 750 as well as the Nuvi 660. The traffic subscription actually lies within the traffic receiver and will work on any GPS unit that is compatible. I use my GTM-20 with a number of compatible Garmin GPS units and you will not have to transfer the subscription, as the subscription sticks with the traffic receiver instead of the unit.

Traffic

I don't disagree with what Garmin told you. My point was that I do not believe that the two devices share the same input via their 12V charger. I haven't seen a 660 in some time, and can't remember what the input looks like, but if memory serves correctly, (doubtful at my age), I think the 660 has the same type input as the Nuvi 350, which is not the same as the 750. In that case, the original poster would have to buy the GTM 20 cable for the 750 and try to transfer the traffic subscription. I believe that a guy named Keith (KCH50428) (on this forum) has a 660 and is (like a lot of us) waiting for a 750. If you can find him, you might want to ask him if the two inputs are compatible. He has the user manual for the 750, which shows the side-mounted input.

Cheers........ Joel

Late edit: I just checked the users manual for the 660, and it does (indeed) seem to share the same input as the 750. Consequently, the 660 GTM 20 charger will work on either device, as will the traffic subscription. Please forgive the confusion.

Yes I belive you can. The compatibility pages indicate they both work.
