Text files

Instead of using Word try using Wordpad and save as Text file, naming it xxxxx.csv. You won't need to do any conversions of format.

Actually, use notepad

Even wordpad has some formatting.

Really didn't understand your post and what you were asking for. However, csv files are in excel, not word.

getting started

After reading the "getting started" and the "faq" pages you'll be on your way.

Don't use "Word"

Use Notepad (not wordpad)

after you've entered your data, in the proper format sequence, ie long, lat, name, (opt description)

select file, "save as" then give your file a name and don't forget to add the .csv extension as part of the file name. Also, don't forget where you saved it to.

example, (in notepad you'll have these three boxes)

file name: firstfile.csv
save as type: Text Documents (*.txt)
encoding: ANSI

I've named this file "firstfile"
when you go to the folder where you saved it, it will have the Excel icon....don't panic! set the mouse over the file, or right click and select properties and you will see it's a

Microsoft Excel Comma Separated Values File

you can also create and or view this file in excel.
if you are not familiar with excel, stick with notepad until you become more familiar with the poi file/csv file process.

Don't worry about the *.txt and DON'T try to change the csv to a "txt" file, no need to worry about that. You want the csv. Think of it as the csv being a specialized txt file.

Hope this wasn't too confusing.

Let us know how you make out.
