waypoint locating

I was just curious about something and maybe you guys can help...... say if I owned the Nuvi 360 and I programmed a waypoint that was located out in the middle of a field with no road leading directly to it.... would my Nuvi take me to the best route nearest to the waypoint (the closest road/street) and then just point to the right direction? i have no reason to do this, I was just curious haha...... This site is awesome!

The things people ask :-)

Me neither, but I couldn't resist finding out smile Just simulated it with my Nüvi 310 ... and it did exactly as you thought it would.
It said "Arriving at destination" at the point where it ran out of road.
I suppose you should switch from "Faster time"/"Shorter distance" to "Off Road" at this point...

Not often, buth they do err

I have had a couple of errors creep up and not certain why. The first is my bank. It always tells me to turn the OPPOSITE way of where the bank is located. I know where it so no big deal. The other one happened just the other day. I wanted to go to a CB shop. We went directly as the Garmin told us but it wanted us to turn where there was no road. It was an orchard of trees that had been there for years. When we went down to the next road where we could turn, it did not register a thing. It just stopped reporting. Did she get ticked at me? At any rate, I think Garmin ought to rethink its software so that you can manually insert a route instead of constantly going in and putting in VIAs - and save them, of course.

It is the way that it is

It is the way that it is calculating the address, there are a lot of threads here about this subject. In short, it is like this...

|-----------------|------------------|
0 50 100

If a stretch of road is addressed like above, it guess that half way is 50, when in truth, it may be 51 or 48. There is a lot more to it, but that was a start.

street addresses off

I've found numerous street number problems in mapsource. If I am searching by street numbrer, I now always assume that my GPS will get me near where I want and I then will have to "look around" a little when I get there to find the real exact address.

I have a major road in my area that is improperly named. Is there anywhere to write to request a correction to be made to upcoming map updates?

I also have found the unit to be incorrect on addresses including my home address. I live on a fairly new road which hasn't been mapped yet. My Nuvi 350 keeps telling me to turn into the common area at the front of our community instead of our street which is about 200 feet further down the road.

FredL,

I'm so confused!!!!!

I do own an Explorer with 4 wheel drive so I guess I could follow the route through the woods to my house if I was adventurous smile. Actually, I just listed my home address as home and I'm thinking of changing it to the actual address and then see where my Garmin takes me.

Hey, by the way, thanks for your comments on using the Nuvi 350 when I first signed on to this site. It's good to know there are people out there willing to help newbies to the sport of GPSing.

Does Jimmy Hoffa come to mind here for anyone else, or is just me?

Parking Lot

How does it direct you to your car in a parking lot given that there are no roads in the lot?
