Associating bmps w. POIs

So yesterday, I downloaded two files to my Nuvi 650. Both had exactly the same name except for the extension. One was a csv, the other a bmp. They downloaded succesfully.

I then went out to the car, and chose one of the POIs as my destination. It brought me there fine, but the bmp didnt show on the map. Just the checkered flag. What gives?

You have to zoom in to a certain level

You have to zoom in to a certain level before the bitmaps display. On my nuvi 200 I think it is 300ft.

first as mentioned, check the zoom level.
second, make sure the bmp is named Exactly the same as the csv file.
third, make sure the bmp file is in the same folder as the csv file when loading via poi loader.
if all else fails, review the instructions at the bottom of the "icons" tab
Let us know how it turns out and if you need additional help, MM will be here shortly

I like to recommend to people to zoom all the way in until you can't zoom in anymore and verify that at least the gray dot shows up which will verify that the POI location is actually load and shows up. At this point, you will be able to see the location.

If it's not there at all, you will want to check to make sure that the source POI files are in the correct location on your computer to be loaded.

If the dot shows up, but not the icon, then double and triple check the the bmps and POI files are properly named. Check for double file extensions. Be sure that your file extensions are not hidden.

If the custom icon shows up, then zoom out until the icon doesn't show anymore and then you will know how far you will need to zoom in in the future.

Well, I zoomed in all the

Well, I zoomed in all the way, and still dont see anything.

Here is what I did:

1) Create a new folder on my dekstop
2) Download both the csv and the bmp files to that folder
3) Pointed the POI loader to that new folder
4) Downloaded the files (I got the successful msg)
5) Checked the device. The locations are listed under Custom POIs

What's next?

You didn't state that you

You didn't state that you renamed the files to be the same.

Select one of the locations, click on "View Map" (or whatever the button is on your GPS unit), zoom in until you see it.

Alternately, browse the map to an area where you know there should be a POI, zoom in on that spot until you see it.

note

on the c550
if you select one of the locations then view map as MM describes, the custom icon will appear, regardless of the zoom level. Not sure if the nuvi's react the same.

when in nav mode, it seems all models need to be zoomed in to almost all the way in.

I'd still check the file names, copy and paste the file names in your post....so we can see.

My favorites show up as well

My favorites show up as well at any level, but the POIs dont.

Ok, here are the file names:

Quiznos.bmp
Quiznos.csv

One thing that is interesting note however... When I try to open the bmp in paint, I get a msg that Paint can not opern the file kuz it doesnt appear to be a valid bitmap

Open it in another program

Open it in another program (Photoshop) and then resave. You can send it to me and I can do it if you don't have another program.

Are you saying the even the gray dot doesn't show up on your map for the Quiznos locations? If this is the case, then it doesn't sound like the POI is actually loaded to the unit. Are you sure that they are showing up under Extras?

soxfan2k4

I have created / altered many bmps

Lsmonop's POIcon page

I have had this happen to me before. I don't know the true reason as to why, there may be many. You can try to open it in another program, then re-saving as.

If there is a problem with the bmp, such as the error you get, you still should the gray dot as MM states.

Worse case, start over. If you'd like you can email it to me and I'll take a look for you.
