Disc and suction cup don't work that well vertically - any ideas?

In my truck, I have a nice area to mount my Nuvi 350 below my radio. It is easy to use there and not on my dash. At first, I was just using the suction cup. I would make sure the cup was clean and it would have a good grip. After several days, it would eventually lose its suction and fall off. I can reattach it but it will eventually fall off again. So I decided to mount the disc thinking that would fix my problem. Well, not only do I have the problem of the cup coming off the disc, but the adhesive it also separating from the disc.

Anyone have any ideas on vertical mounting my Nuvi? Are there any tricks to get better suction or better after market mounts?

suction cup don't work

Try dampening the suction cup with a little water.

clean glass and cup with

clean glass and cup with windex. Use small amount of vasaline on cup.

Try using liquid soap, such

Try using liquid soap, such as dish or hand soap. Mount the bracket on your dash and let it dry over night before putting any weight on it. This process should not damage the dash panel if you want to remove the bracket.

Suction cup won't stay on

I used alcohol to clean an area on a vertical section of the dash (smooth area) and soap on the cup and my c540 is still hanging in. I was just going to use water but the wife suggested Dawn and it seems to be the right stuff.

Disc mount suction

Mine stop working all together.. Left a lot of dirt on window area(ring Spot). Decided to order a vent mount from e-bay for $20.00 including shipping.. The good bvent mount that allows for your power adapter to fit. Did not buy the cheaper version where you also have to buy the straight tip adapter to power the Nuvi 350.

Works fine, only one little disapointment- When hooked to vent, the nuvi tilts a little up towards the window. Therfore, you get some glare from the sun. Besides that its fine .

soap on plastic

I've noticed that when you used soap to wash anything plastic, it would give it a better suction. (cleaner when removing any types of oil)

Out side of the box...

Why not consider the "Garmin Portable Friction Mount for Nuvi"? $28

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Portable-Friction-StreetPilot-0...

I bought one for my C530 and have not used the other mount since. It doesn't leave a mark on the windshield and is easy to stow under the seat or out of view. Pick it up and carry into your house/work is no problem.

Just a thought...

I have heard great things

I have heard great things about the bean bag mount, but for me, I like my GPSr high and to the left, that wouldn't work well with the friction mount.

Same problem I had...

I received a new rubber thingamajig that adheres to the disk from Garmin after I reported my problem. It seems, according to what I have been told, the rubber was not cured properly during manufacture and is causing the same problem with a great number of Garmin users. I received a new, free, one in the mail just a few days ago.

I am not certain I would wan to lick these things to get them to stick better. If this does not work, I may consider the friction mount as long as it is universal and fit any of the Garmin products.

I got a new one as well as

I got a new one as well as the new one that came with my nuvi, I originally had the c530. The two new ones are much better. Make sure that you have a very clean windshield and the rubber cup is clean (put a bit of vasaline, and even better)

Something different

In California, it is illegal to put them on the windshield though I have a disk above the rear view mirror. The "disk" will not stick to a surface unless it is glass like on that surface. I want to put mine lower but it has a rough texture on the surface. My uncle suggested putting Gorilla Glue on the disk and then I could use it at that level. Has anyone tried this method? Are there other options?

Suction Cup didn't work

If you are looking for a different mount, you might want to look at the ProClip Mounting systems. They have mounts for just about anything from MP3 players to cellphones to GPSs. There mounts are a two part mount, one part for your vehicle and the other for your GPS. The mount for your vehicle is semi permanent. Checked them out they might have what you need. I have one for my c550, it mount on the dash below the window. Works great and looks nice.

On a CD case

I attach my suction mount to a plastic CD case. I then set the CD case into an open stowage space below the dash on the center console of my Honda Civic. The GPS is well within arms reach and not easily visible outside the car. It works great in that location. Since the weight of the GPS is pressing down instead of pulling on the suction cup, it stays attached a long time.
