in need of red light camera pictures

I would like to start a page that will help red light camera location contributors distinguish between a red light camera and a traffic monitoring camera.

As this technology gets better it is harder to tell what the real red light cameras look like.

So I would like to have people submit photos of the real thing and the not real thing and I will have a page that will help you tell if what you are seeing is a red light camera or not:)

Thanks ahead of time.

This is good! I see a lot

This is good! I see a lot of pictures on the internet, which I don't believe are truly red light cams. Most have a flash bulb attached in order to view license plates at night. They also may have a radar transmitter in order to get speed.

Here is my question...

Can anyone tell the different between redlight and speed cameras, or are they one in the same?

Wikipedia

The Wikipedia has really good descriptions and photos of the Red Light Cameras at intersections.

Both domestic and foreign.

The ones here at least use

The ones here at least use the magnetic loops in the intersection to detect when you've rolled through the light. Are all red light cams the same? I'll try to get a few if I can.

In DC, there a many times

In DC, there a many times two camera back to back, I beleive that these are the speed cameras because they also use radar.

Hello again

Let me clarify my request, please submit only pictures that you yourself have taken of these cameras.

Pictures of red light cameras taken from other sites are copy write protected.

I already have a few from Texas, I would like to get a variety from around the country. You can go look at the pics that I have and if they are different cameras go ahead and send me pics of them.

I do need more of the traffic monitoring cameras.

Here is a site where viewers can see red light cameras

How Stuff Works / Photos

I'm not so sure the photos posted at how stuff works are good examples. They're dated 2001 and don't seem to be well positioned for red light enforcement.

Traffic cameras are usually placed high and pointed so they can see a long row of cars backed up behind a traffic signal or freeway ramp.

Enforcement cameras need to get a good shot of the license plate. Showing the red traffic signal in the same frame is also pretty common. For this type of shot, the cameras would be closer to the ground.

Also, in states that only issue rear license plates, cameras need to be positioned before the intersection so they can photograph the back of the car as it's passing trough.

Photos?

You want photographs? I guess I could do that when I next go past the mall where the closest is sitting though you may already have one like it because it looks like a run of the mill red light camera to me.

That's nice. I'm a newbie

That's nice.
I'm a newbie and always wondered what all these camera's were about.
In San Jose most of the "traffic cams" point into the intersection or away from it (maybe to take snapshot of back of license plate when a vehicle is zooming).
Any idea?
