New Features for Unread Posts

I've updated the unread posts page to include a couple new options.

Each post now has a "skip" action, which marks the post as read (without viewing).

I've also added a "Set Favorite Forums" feature, that lets you designate your favorite forums so their posts sort ahead of others in the unread posts list.

Neat.

Very nice...keep on keepin' on! smile

'skip' send you back

to page 1...no matter which page you are on, if you use 'skip' you go back to the top.

Thanks JM

Just in time. I have been out of touch for the past 4 days and there were 6 pages of comments this morning. Luckily your post was one of the early ones.
The new features saved a tremendous amount of time. Especially like the Set Favorite Forums.
Just have to get use to the skip action being next to the button to read, as I accidentally hit the skip once. However, I learn quickly.

Thanks for the best site.

Thanks again, JM. I didn't know how much I missed the Skip and Set Favorite Forums options until you gave them to us. Really improves the use of the website. Hats off to you.

Multipage topics

Is there a way to get the New Posts link to go to the new posts if the thread has more than one page? When I click on the New Posts link for such a thread it always goes to the top of the first page.

Multipage / New

On the "unread posts" page, there are two links for each message:

  • Clicking the name link (left column) always takes you to the start of the message.
  • Clicking the "# new" link (right column) will take you to the first new post.

This works correctly from the unread posts page, but there's a bug in the web platform we're using that shows up in other areas of the site.

JM

thanks!

Wow, I just noticed this. Awesome! Thanks!

Unread vs Recent Posts

Oh...I usually come in from the "Recent Posts" page and not the Unread one. If I click on the # of new posts there on a multipage thread, it goes to the first post. Is that one of the bugs in other areas you're talking about?

Yup.

JM

Thanks

Nice approach. Keeps me up to date without having to page through lots of stuff.

Cheers

Skip I like

Been using "skip" for topics that I can read later when I have time.
