I have an etrex Vista Cx & have the older version of the Topo maps. I noticed they came out with a 2008 version & was wondering if anyone had updated to the 2008 version from the older version & could tell me if it was worth the money. It doesn't look like it is upgraded all that much so if someone could tell me who has done it it would be greatly appreciated.

If you go over to the forums at Geocaching.com, you will find TONS of discussions and great information on these maps.

You are a fount of information. How do you know so much, and say it so succinctly? I'm impressed (as always).
I'd read Amazon's reviews of the Topo 2008 software, and it seemed rather mediocre, and I decided not to buy it. The forum messages convinced me, as did going on Garmin's website and looking at their map viewer for my region of town. The old software I've been using shows virtually no street names. The new software has almost all the streets labeled, as well as better contour detail to boot. So, thanks!

I get around.
Just loaded my 76CX with Topo 2008...
...a painfully slow process; took about 2 1/2 hours to upload the set to the gps.
The map set I used on 2008 is roughly twice as large as the old topo map (650mb vs. ~300mb). It also requires a DVD player, which I had to buy, vs the old CD based system. The detail is definitely better such as having road names galore, even little streets like the one I live on.
More details to come when I have a chance to use it on the trail and water in the coming weeks.
