Hi from a Newbie

I just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I just purchased my first GPS (Garmin Streetpilot c580). I'm looking forward to learning a lot of useful information from you all.

Why not the C550

HI,

congrats on the new GPS. I just looked to see what I missed by getting the C550 and not the c580. It looks like you get MSN weather, gas, movies. Is it worth the extra money for these features?

I first thought of getting the 340 but thought that I will eventually get a phone with bluetooth and would miss something. I also like the traffic.

I bought the c580 because it

I bought the c580 because it was on sale on the Costco website for $349.00 which seems like a good price. I think the c580 has the same features as the 550 except for MSN.

great price

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. That's a great price. I got my c550 for 350.00 (delivered) from fry.com. I absolutely love the unit and can't live without it. For my wife and kids, I got (from this site) all the Starbucks and Dunkin Donut POI files.

Another Newbie

Hi, I just got a Garmin Nuvi670. I was very disappointed because much of the information in my area is very old. I looked online at the sample of Mapsources newest updates and many of the roads and highway exits that are missing from my GPS are there. I contacted Garmin with some specific problems and they said that they will send the latest map update.
Is this a common problem?
I would think when you buy the newest product you should have the current maps pre installed. At least they seem to be standing by their product.

You were probably 'on the

You were probably 'on the bubble' between old maps and new maps, depending on when the unit was shipped. If your map version is "V8", it is old. The new one is NT V2008. That is what they will be sending you. You can find that at the Main Menu Tools (wrench) menu --> Maps --> Map Info.
Even with that, don't expect it to be totally up to date. Even the new maps are often at least 6 months to a year old, it's quite an effort to have every road in the country totally up to date. This is true of all GPS companies as they all get their maps from one or two sources.
