Loading custom POI's

If I create several POI files under different names, can several custom POI files be loaded into memory at the same time from a SD card?
How do you purge the POI entries from memory so the screen doesn't get cluttered? I may only want to load beaches and bays, but I usually won't need them loaded when I want to find an In 'n Out burger.
rename poi.gpi
I've read elsewhere that you can rename the poi.gpi file that's created by POI Loader and then load more POIs into a new poi.gpi file.
As far as I know, categories from all of the *.gpi files on your nuvi will be shown. I haven't seen that you can selectively disable *.gpi files so their categories aren't listed on the where to screen.
Usual disclaimer: It's always a good idea to do a backup before you rename or delete files on your GPS.

create sub folders?
Not sure if this answers your question. I store my POI's in separate folders on my computer so when they are uploaded, I only have the ones I want for my current trip. The POI Loader purges all POIs on the unit then uploads all relevant files from the folder destination you provide.
As for the SD card, I don't have one. However, I'm guessing the unit adds to the list of POIs from the card. So, you could keep only the ones you want for your current trip on the card, or have separate cards (if you want it that badly).

It actually combines the
It actually combines the uploaded files into '\Garmin\Poi\poi.gpi', overwriting any poi.gpi that was there.

to answer your first ?, yes
Yes, You can create different .csv files that can be uploaded at the same time (if they are all in the same folder). Each file will be a different Category under the Custom POIs.
With the Category's you won't have beaches and bays cluttered with your burger joints.
btw, yes overwriting is the term I was looking for thanks.
