sent

the 2006's ECU out for repair.

1 day turnaround from IL, shipped Mon night, got back Mon afternoon.

Put back into car and now it shifts like butter again (I don't like automatics but not really my choice still have 1 manual).

$185 plus $19 to ship as I overboxed. Way better than dealer $7,000.

We live in a disposable Visa society but still rather repair for hundreds not just get a new car like my coworkers (1 said "get rid of it" when I mentioned the $124.99 Costco battery job and then this one, basically get rid of 2 cars--can one even imagine, because a new battery is needed, that's an excuse to get a brand new vehicle lol).

At any rate through this new repair, I learned of a term, "flow soldering." I guess over time and that the ECU is in the engine bay near the block, solders crack, and that's where the TCU (transmission control unit) IC is located.

The end.

As if all my other medical

As if all my other medical problems weren't enough, now I have to deal with afib, doctor plans to try and shock my heart back into a normal rhythm, a Cardioversion, which carries with it the possibility of putting my into a stroke too. fun fun fun I have had way more than my fair share of health problems, geez give me a break already.

2006's ECU out for repair

Well at least cracked solder joints are a pretty easy fix. Part of the problem is push to worse and worse quality solder. In my experience 60/40 leaded solder is best but I don't think they can even use that in mass production anymore.

Anyone who knows me knows I

Anyone who knows me knows I have had way more than my fair share of medical problems, a lot of them pretty serious. A month or so ago while at a routine visit with my cardiologist it was determined my heart has gone into afib. (Atrial Fibrillation). It's an irregular heartbeat not caused by valve problems. Apparently not uncommon for folks my age.
Nonetheless it could be very serious. As a result I was put on blood thinners, Eliquis to be exact, a very expensive drug. Thinning the blood is supposed to cut down on the possibility of blood clots, which could give you a stroke or kill you.
Well, this morning I am going in for a procedure called cardioversion. They actually stop my heart by shocking it trying to knock the afib out and get my heart to start beating again properly.
Cardioversion is supposedly a fairly routine thing but not without possible problems. Anyone who knows me knows the book Murphy's Law was written about folks like me.
I haven't shared any of this until now because I have had a couple friends going through some stuff more serious than me, for a change. Unfortunately one of them passed on and the other is still dealing with their problem.
Anyway, wish me luck and hope to yak at ya's later, if not it's been one hell of a ride. Take care of my wife, Jean Young, for me please.

Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is an asbestos related lung cancer and there is NO cure for it !.

I was not going to post about this but another member is frequently posting about his situation.

In 2023 I was away on a trip to the Middle East and midway through that I could not keep up with the walking tours.

When I got home the first week of June 2023 I saw my doctor and I was sent to the ER where was diagnosed with Mesothelioma. After many tests, biopsy's etc I was scheduled to have the lining removed on my lung on Dec.1st.

After an 10 hour operation with 2 ribs removed to get at the lung I was medically induced into a 2 day sleep.

Then a 2 week hospital stay where I was dependant on the nurses helping me or assisting me with certain bodily functions.

Next I had booked into a Respite home for 2 months for some recuperation and where I learned to manoeuvre with a rollator (4 wheel walker).

According to Dr.GOOGLE the life expectancy from the diagnosis is 18 months.I am now at 26 months after the diagnosis and the doctors have no way of saying when I will need to pack up and go.

Guilty

That said, best of luck with your situation, sometimes it helps to get it out and allow others to care.

My wife's mother went through the same thing. Unfortunately by the time someone gets to hospice the only thing they can do is manage the pain and allow them to pass in peace. Sucks for those still living and witnessing the whole thing though.
