As posted above, when I create a custom POI file, what is the limit to the number of characters that can be displayed on the Garmin GPS screen?

it depends

The number of characters that can be displayed varies between devices and what field is being used. Plan on 16 being the upper limit, but you may find more can be displayed if you expirement.
