EV Charging Stations

I'm really surprised that there isn't more listing for EV Charging Stations? All types or models, etc.
Thanks Mike

EV Charging Stations

I currently maintain 2 Tesla Super Charging Stations files - one for the USA (3000+ ) http://www.poi-factory.com/node/54187 and one for Canada (290+) http://www.poi-factory.com/node/54188 and have been updating them weekly. There are currently over 73,300 Electric Vehicle Charging stations (all types) in the US and over 13,300 in Canada. I could generate files of all Electric Vehicle Charging stations for both countries if there is interest.

If Only

such a file could show, in real time, which ones are broken and which are in use.

EV Charging Stations

Yes, that would be great! Not possible though as you can imagine using a generated file.

I'm generating the Tesla Support Charging Locations POI files (USA and Canada) from a program I've written which uses a public Application Programming Interface to access the US Dept of Energy Electric Vehicle Chargers database. For each charging location (not each charger at a location) there is a status code with 3 possible statuses - "Available", "Planned" or "Temporarily Available". "Available" means the charging location is "operational". No idea how "real" time the status of a charging location is updated. When I generate the Tesla Support Charging Locations POI files (USA and Canada) I only generate POIs for those locations which are "Available". I've been generating the files weekly.

App

Perhaps someone would create an app such as GasBuddy but for EV stations. It could be a self reported for out of service and other capabilities.

I realize the difficulty in creating such a file. My comment was merely a wish, but thanks for your effort in creating your file.

I've been thinking about getting an EV and have been taking note of the charging stations I pass. Most are either out of service or in use. I'm told it's due to the lack of trained service techs in the area and the high rate of vandalism.

Also, people seem to just leave their vehicle at a charging station while they eat at a restaurant or go shopping, thus tying up the station long after the charge cycle is complete.

However, jfossy's comment about a crowd sourced program, such as Waze or Gas buddy, has some merit.

EV Charging Stations

Over the weekend I generated 2 files containing all Electric Vehicle Charging Stations: one for Canada and one for the USA. The Canadian file was 24.5 MB and contains over 13,300 POIs.
Tried to submit it to POI Factory and nothing happened. The Create Content POI file web page spun for a few seconds and then refreshed without doing anything and no error message.
Tried it multiple times, including just trying a preview first. No go. I suspect the file is too large for the webs server to allow uploading. I did send a email to POI Factory using the "contact" form. No response as of yet. If there is a maximum file upload size I know I could break the POIs files in multiple POI files: a file for each Canadian province, and a maybe combine USA POI states into region POI files. But the California state EV POI file is 32MB (17,381 POIs) and is larger than the entire Canadian country POI file.

Files available that have EV Charging Stations

As I update the following files, I add EV Charging Stations to these files:

WAWA--- 171 charging stations-201 now (6/30/25)
Shell-- 89 charging stations
Love's-- 34 charging stations
Buc'ees- 30 charging stations
Sheetz-- 106 charging stations-108 now (6/29/25)
7-Eleven- 46 charging stations
Casey's- 42 charging stations
Hucks- 3 charging stations

EV Charging Stations - POI Factory max file size around 12mb

I have been told that the maximum file upload size allowed by POI Factory is around 12MB.
That prevents me from uploading the Electric Vehicle Charging Stations GPX files.
The Canadian file is over 24.5 MB and contains over 13,300 POIs.
The USA file is over 100MB, the state of California alone is over 32MB.
So unless the POI Factory maximum upload size can be increased I won't be uploading the Electric Vehicle Charging Stations POI GPX files. Breaking the data into less than 12MB files and uploading and managing separate GPX files is unwieldy and impractical.
A 12MB maximum upload file size is extremely low.
