Nuvi Recalc Issue

Has anybody had an issue with their nuvi position being off by a hundred feet or so and constantly recalcing? I had left my 650 in the car while I spent 12 hrs in Six Flags on a 102 degree day. Going home it worked fine for the first 20 miles, then all of a sudden it said it was recalculating and kept telling me to proceed to the highway I was already on. I turned it off and then back on and it started to work correctly again and showed me on the highway. Hope it can handle heat but I am concerned that it may be defective, it is just over a month old.

.

It was probably the heat. That's way too much heat for these units to handle.

GPSr can handle heat, but if

GPSr can handle heat, but if you had it on the windshield and windows closed, I agree, that would be too much heat for it.

I'm going to keep an eye on

I'm going to keep an eye on it for a while and see how it goes. It was in its leather case inside the center console so at least it wasn't in direct sunlight all day.

I am going to Florida at the

I am going to Florida at the end of August and planned on leaving my NUVI in the car while I was at Disney. Are you suggesting that the it will be too hot in the car (even if I do not leave it on the windshield) and recommending that I carry it with me in the park?

A car can be too hot

The operating temperature for the nuvi is 32 to 140 F. I would think a car can approach or exceed those temps in the August Florida sun. For theft and heat reasons I take my nuvi with me. It fits nicely in my cargo shorts pocket.

I also bought a digital camera case that the nuvi fits in quite nicely. I just took the nuvi into Walmart and tried the different cases until I found the right fit.

heat in your car

the interior of a car can exceed 160F while sitting in the sun. I would recommend that you place your GPS in the trunk of your car ... it is typically much cooler in there (no greenhouse effect!)

the problem with bringing it into the park is all the rides and water. though you could rent a locker near the park entrance and store it in there.

I guess I'll take it with me

My camera bag probably has room for the NUVI, so I guess I'll play it safe and take it with me into the parks. I wasn't too concerned about theft, but never really thought about the heat.

Walmart has 2 of them

Walmart has two cases (at least where I live) that the nuvi fits perfect. One is $6 and the other is $16. Both has belt clips, not loops which I perfer. one case is an igo camera case. The other is in the cell phone section.
