Loading additional information to the Nuvi FAVORITES descriptions

Has anyone loaded information from a GPX file where the phone number / address goes when you click on a favorite. I would like to add notes for some things and some goecache information notes. If so how did you do it? I have a GPX file with the description field filled in.
I might have managed something similar ;-)
When accessed by the unit directly, you can only add a limited amount of information to a gpx file - the rest gets discarded. The description field isn't usable, though the phone number is.
On the other hand - .gpx files fed into POI Loader can unleash the full potential of the unit.
See HERE for my approach to creating .gpx files.
(I'm away for a couple of days now-got to go test my latest home-made map...it's of the UK's largest theme park (which would apparently fit in the Magic Kingdom's car park!))

Hornbyp,
Thanks for attaching that link. There was a lot of good information on your web site. Thanks!

Thanks for your input. But I do not want to have POI since I want these to show up on the map when not zoomed in. So my question is there way way to do something that loads data into favorites. I'm loading Geo cache information and I need more information on GPS? Other people might need things like customer contacts etc?
Workarounds...
OK - I understand your problem.
It's a pity that POI Loader doesn't give you control over the visibility of the icons it creates. One way you can influence it, is to turn your POI's into Alerts (either distance or speed-based). The icons will now appear at much lower zoom levels. Of course, you'll get annoying alerts sounds unless you take steps to avoid them - one way is to associate an MP3 file containing 'silence'. (You'll still get the Red bar though).
What I've been doing instead, is embedding POI's in custom maps and manually setting the zoom distances to the values I require. To avoid having POILoader's icon eventually appear on top of the map's icon, I've been using a 24x24 magenta (ie transparent) square. My experiments in this area are continuing ... :-)

Thanks for your help and the link. For me, I think it will be enough but I do with Garmin would let us do more with our favorites.
I don't know where I'm going or remember where I've been...without Garmin.

If you create your waypoints in Mapsource, you can transfer them to your GPS directly. In that case, they go into Favorites. The transfer is two way so you can move them back and forth.

My issue isn't being able to create waypoints. I can and have done in the various programs. But rather, it an issue of getting more data to show up for the waypoint. I'd like to see the hints and actual coordinates for geo caches on the detail screen where the address normally goes! Where can I find how to do that that? I do not want to use POI so please understand I'm asking about favorites not POI!
As far as two way goes, Map source can not delete or edit the favorites stored in the GPS memory. All it can do is pull a copy that can be edited then added as an additionally way point but it can only be deleted manually or by a procedure I posted elsewhere in this forum.
Yep sounds like we're down to another Garmin workaround

Thanks! That's an interesting approach and I think I might use that for a POI that I might want to see on a map. Let me know how that works out and what you did!
