Sudden new speed and school zones.

Recently (few months?) my DS 65 is throwing all kinds of new speed and school zone alarms. One area a couple of blocks away will bring in a school zone alarm (miles from a school). Also getting frequent reduced speed zones.. down to 30 km in a normal 60 zone.. 60 in a 80 zone. New speed stays for a bit and then reverts to what it should be.
So, is this something that indicates my DS is giving up, time to start looking for sales??
Would total reset be in order (and giving up all my previous addresses)?
I have the latest maps (live in Canada) but this speed zone alarm thing came in long after installing them. It may.. have coincided with a software upgrade though, but can not be sure.
Thouhgts??
Maybe new school zone signs
There is an international school zone sign that is 5-sided, usually yellow or fluorescent green. It shows a couple of people walking and sometimes has an rectangular numeric speed limit sign immediately below it. I am seeing an increasing number of these signs in my fairly rural area. One is near a new day care school and the other near a long established K-6 school. My nuvi 2689 started giving a warning on those signs at a map update about 6 to 8 months back. I drive by these places every day, so I was quite surprised when it started happening. The day care center does not have the typical flashing lights but the K-6 school does.
By the way many years ago I got an official “warning” in New York because of this type of sign. Being used to flashing lights in Pennsylvania I was driving perhaps 30 mph and drove past one of those signs early in the morning. I was pulled over and advised that there was also a speed limit associated with that type of sign and I had exceeded it.
I’ve often wondered about this type of sign…if I drive by one at 10 PM am I to still obey a school zone speed limit? At least the flashing lights are supposed to be related to the school hours of operation.

My guesses
I have no knowledge of what you see, but my guesses are that this is not a Garmin thing but is a problem with the Candian providers of the data causing your issues. I think the school zone locations and speed limits are built into map updates, so it's not your device that's flaky.
It's possible that your new alerts are due to a change you made in your device's settings and that previously, they weren't activated.
Even if/when you do update to a new Garmin device, you won't lose all your previous saved places, since Garmin Express has a way to save Favorites from any device and to copy them to a different Garmin device.
From what I read here at The Factory, Canadian users of Garmin devices have more issues with school zones, etc. that are not seen in the USA.

Here in the USA we are having speed cameras showing up in many school zones. Maybe in Edmonton you are having the same thing happen. Are you using the POI Factory speed and redlight camera files ? If not I would suggest you get them . POI Factory doing good job keeping up with the new speed cameras in school zones. They show many speed cameras for the location you have listed.
Here is something I pulled up on the web . Edmonton Traffic Cameras https://edmontontrafficcam.com/
