Keeping The Windmill Alive – July 2024

Perhaps you can post on a new book you're reading, a new hobby you're taking up or about random finds as you finally get around to cleaning out the..., or your most recent adventure?

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

Please keep comments polite.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Spinning, wondering about this week's COW?

Had to post here to get credit for the week... haven't seen a Contributor of the Week posted yet, which is where I go when I don't have a pertinent comment on another topic. With all the talent and dedication here at the POI Factory, can't imagine that no one was worthy?? Hopefully we'll still see one before the week is out!

hoping for a better release

Part of owning a Tesla and using the ever-evolving self-driving software is waiting for new releases and hoping for improvement. Some cars are getting release 12.5 now, and I'm hoping to get it soon.

Fire...

Another day of the Park Fire. The damned fire is up to 386,256 acres with 12% containment. We were soooooooooooooooooo freaking lucky that the wind was blowing away from us as the fire started about 3.5 miles from our house.

Today the jackwad who started the fire gets arraigned. Unlike the Camp Fire from 2018 (that one burned almost the entire town that is just a short drive up the hill from us) there is a known person who was seen at the source of the fire. He pushed a burning car down into a gully in the park. He's a "model citizen" who already has two major felonies on his record. One for Child Molestation and one for Robbery with Great Bodily Harm. I hope they lock him up and throw away the key.

Mega Road Trip

Just did 36 days across to West coast and back to St. Louis.
Left home June 8 and got back home July 13th.

7100+ miles averaged 29.6 mpg. (whole trip) My new Maverick Truck.
No issues. Used "Route 66 GPX" (Thanks phinphan) which is an old file but, still helped allot!

Stayed in cheap motels for the most part, Very few reservations.
A few slightly SKETCHY places.

MO, IA, SD, WY, MT, ID, WA, OR, CA, AZ, NM, TX, OK, KS, & back to MO.
115 deg in CA desert (Barstow), 118 deg AZ desert (Lake Havasu) - no issues. Crazy trip

The roads we were on unbelievably BEAUTIFUL!

SD badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Needles Highway etc.
MT Glacier National Park
OR Columbia River Gorge, Highways 1 & 101
CA Highways 1 & 101, Route 66
AZ, NM, TX, OK, KS, MO - Route 66

There is a section of original Route 66 from 1927 in OK you can drive on - very rough and only 9 ft wide
(Ribbon Road, near Miami OK - (pavement 9ft. gravel road is wider)
