I rode my bike around Minneapolis and Saint Paul this past weekend. I was able to remain on paved bike trails for the most past. My challenge was when I needed to use bridges. Some bridges are more bicycle friendly than others. Does Google Maps, Garmin or somebody else deal with that issue pretty well?
Garmin Varia
I don't know how to define a bike friendly Bridge and can't really contribute to that. Plus I'm not into cycling anymore.
however, I recently saw an ad for this device that might be of use to avid cyclists. It will warn you about vehicles approaching from behind.

Interesting that since early 2022 bicycle and walking paths, with only a few exceptions, are now required in new construction and repair. See https://bikeleague.org/biking-and-walking-access-now-require...

For the Most Part, No
Most maps I see for biking don't deal with bridges very well.
Whenever I plan a route, I always use Google Earth to look at any bridges I need to cross. GE usually gives you a good idea of how the lanes are structured and if barrier protected bike / pedestrian lanes exist.
Sometimes, altering a GPS generated route slightly, by using another bridge (if available) is the best bet.
