Welcome home brothers and sisters

I came back to the world on March 24, 1968. That’s 56 years ago. Sometimes, it seems like it was yesterday. Other times, it was a lifetime ago! Lost two high school buddies over there. Ronald Coates and Jerry Day Leak. Both good guys. One died within 3 months of arriving in country, the other died with 3 months left in country. Just goes to show that you were never safe; not from day one to your last day in country. Let us remember the 58,281 names that are listed on the Wall in DC today. They deserve us remembering their sacrifice.

Thanks for that reminder…

As a Naval Officer I headed for Vietnam on 02 August 1965. We took MSTS troopships to Charleston SC where troops from the 1st Cavalry (Airborne) boarded. After transiting the Panama Canal we headed for Long Beach, then to Quy Nhon where we dropped off the troops. There were, as best I recall, six troopships in the convoy and ultimately we moved about 13,000 troops and their gear to Vietnam.
