3590 Keeps losing power

Hi Al.

I have a Nuvi 3590 LMT. It would keep showing that Power has been Lost, and shuts down.

I cleaned all of the connections as best I can. That didn't work.

I replaced the powered Mount. That didn't work.

I replaced the GTM60 power/traffic cable. That didn't work.

So I believe it's either the connector on the 3590 itself, it some sort of internal problem with the unit.

I did try a complete reset as well to no avail.

Any other ideas or suggestions? Or do I need to replace the unit?

Thanks.

3590 Keeps Losing Power

Try some compressed air from one of those keyboard spray cans, and spray the cable connection on you GPS you might have some lint in it. and check your batter if it is gone that cause problems. You may also want to check your plug going into the cigarette lighter plug sometimes they will lose power as you drive.

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I also installed a brand new battery, blew out all of the connections with compressed air, and wiped the pins down with some alcohol.

Besides a hard reset, I also removed the Micro SD Card and formatted it and re-installed the maps.

The Cig Lighter plug seems good and I always have the red power light on the end of the cig lighter power plug.

If you feel comfortable about opening your GPS, then I would open it up and check the connection and solder joints, you may have a bad solder there.

When you say power is lost, can you put a time frame on that? The reason I ask is you say you formatted the SD Card and reinstalled maps. I assume that was done without issue, even though depending on the method of installation, that can take a significant amount of time. In my experience, and I don’t own a 3590, don’t expect much more than an hour of useful battery life.

Well, it isn't a discharged

Well, it isn't a discharged battery, otherwise you would get a battery low warning.
Therefore, it is intermittent power. That would either be the power cable or the device.
You can try these:
1. Plug the power cable directly into the Nuvi. That will eliminate the power mount connector on the Nuvi, or not.
2. Hold your finger on the battery icon for 15 sec. It will go to a debug screen. You might find some useful info there.

Other than that, you have eliminated everything else.
Time to open it up and check for some bad solder connections or maybe bad capacitors.

3590 losing power.

Thanks everyone for the help/suggestions. I am able to update software and maps without any problems.

With all of my trouble shooting, I am left to assume that it is some sort of mechanical power connection issue.

It powesr up and remains powered up when using the USB cable.

Everything points to the connections for the power mount "ON" the 3590.

I will open it up and see it I can spot any loose broken solder connections. It is intermittent, so that makes it more difficult to isolate.

Thanks again. I may see what Garmin will charge to repair.
