A mystery re nuvi 3597

I have 2 3597s. I have just updated both and they are both configured the same. When I plug one (a later S/N) into my computer and open File Explorer.
I see:
This PC
nuvi 3597 == an unlabeled drive
Internal storage == a folder, .System & .jcv not showing
Memory Card == a folder
System (C:) == computer system folder
The other one, an earlier S/N - same computer, file explorer, USB port and cable, I see:
This PC
System (C:) == computer system folder
Garmin nuvi (M:) == M: drive, same content as the internal storage
3597-N (N:) == a drive, same content as the memory card
This one shows .System & .jcv on M:
Why the difference? Why doesn't the later S/N show the .System & .jcv folders in internal storage? How can I make them show?
NOTE: FE already set to show hidden files/folders and it shows on earlier S/N 3597
MTP setting?
I don't know whether it explains any of your details, but one plausible difference between the two could be that you don't have the Mass Storage setting the same.
I'm copying and pasting online advice I found on this topic. I don't vouch for accuracy, nor whether it has anything to do with your stated situation of interest.

Make NUVI DIR & Files visible for Backup
1. To make all of Nuvi files visible you must unhide protected files via Win7 like any other HD.
2. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
3. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
4. The Developers Screen will pop up
5. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
6. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
7. Shut down NUVI and hookup to Computer USB cable
8. Start NUVI and it should recognize it is hooked up to the computer.
9. Explorer will now see all files in ROOT directory and the .System directories.
