Garmin Montana 700

I have never owned a handheld GPS. I have only used automobile navigators. I started reading up on the Garmin Montana 700. It seems to have mostly positive reviews.

Does anybody here happen to have a Garmin Montana 700? I would likely use it for ATVing and e-bike rides.

Yes

I have a Montana 700i which I use for e-biking. It replaced my older Montana 650t which lacked the InReach satellite text feature of the 700i. The 700i mapping is also superior to the topo maps on the 650t.

The 700i can be powered via a 5V USB port, 12V DC, or an internal LiOn battery, whichever is more convenient. When externally powered, the screen is far brighter and easier to read than the reflective screen on the 650t.

For about the same money as the 700i, Garmin now offers the Tread base edition. It has a bigger screen, the ability to load better mapping and also has InReach capabilities. It lacks a long life internal battery though and many other features available in the handheld 700i.

If you really need a handheld, the 700i is tough to beat but for ATV use only, the Tread might also be a good choice.
