Who Updates Their Maps More Often, Google Maps or Open Street Maps?

I have never used Open Street so I don’t know about them

I use either Google Maps or Waze. Waze is exceptional in the updating of their maps because of the vast number of people that is imputing street corrections into the product. I know that as soon as a new street is built around where I live, it will be in Waze within, sometimes a week after it is built. Even though Waze is owned by Google, it will take them a while longer to do the updates, and there are some updates that will never be picked up by Google. I am referencing roads in some cemeteries that have been there for years and Google doesn’t have them on their maps but Waze does.

OSM

I use MapFactor OSM offline maps with my Android phone and so far no problems. No connection needed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.... ..Some info on Google Maps vs. OpenStreetMap https://www.fireplugins.com/blog/google-maps-vs-openstreetma...

Thank you for the reply and call me impressed. I just checked Waze and it already shows the roundabout at Dodd and Cliff!

I wonder if I can put Waze on my Garmin? (I doubt it, but I will check.)

One of the features that OSM show on-line on a the Standard Layer and CyclOSM is the building numbers in some places. I don't see them on my Garmin Zumo XT with the OSM maps I downloaded from OpenMapChest.

Google

Google maps shows a roundabout

guess google came second after waze
about 10 days to correct a change

Thank you for the reply.

Open Street Maps still doesn't show the roundabout.

Report errors

You can join the OpenStreetMap community and add or repair the data yourself. Or you can just report the error without joining. See https://www.openstreetmap.org/fixthemap

There is a housing development near me that I rode my e-bike through last night. There are orange street signs listing 151st St W and Ardgillan Rd in Rosemount Minnesota. I checked a few different on-line maps and none of them showed that intersection, yet. I will keep watching to see when it shows up on the various on-line maps. Maybe Waze will be the winner, again!

Map updates

A good test would be to report it and see how long it takes. How fast someone reports a change has a lot to do with it being added to the maps.

Quality of updates

Google Maps still has incorrect info that I have repeatedly reported as incorrect. Even their satellite images show I am correct.

In Lewistown, MT they insist this one street connect directly to a main road. It doesn't.

Open Street Maps

I have a Garmin Montana 700 Handheld which came preloaded with TopoActive Maps, by Region; City Navigator Maps, North America; Federal Public Lands Map, US only. But I also use Open Street Maps Topo Routable Maps. And the Open Street Maps were just updated this month.

Where do you get the Federal Public lands map

Where dod you find the Federal Public Lands Map?

Our son loves to take his boys to Federal lands but only knows one close by. They live in Las Colinas out of Dallas and he tries to get them out of the city when he can and enjoys the Grass Lands outside of Denton. I am sure he would love to know where more are and he has my old GPS and can put other maps on it I think.
Thanks, Mary

Interesting that Waze and

Interesting that Waze and Google didn't update at the same time. I've always figured that they used the same underlying mapping data.

They may but implementing the same map updates between two differing apps may require different update methodologies.

Good point. Seems that must be the case. I guess I assumed they had shared databases and whatnot but apparently not.
