Zumo 665 Clone Map Update still shows old version

I finally updated my collection of Garmins today (I know, way late, I've been gone a while) using the clone method on a few of them including the zumo 665. They are all working fine but the zumo 665 still shows 2023.20. It has shown the previous version ever since I started using the clone update.
It's not that big of a deal since it works fine. I'm just curious if anyone else has run into this anomaly? And if you did and fixed it, what was the solution?
Thanks
Map Info
Page 38 of the Owners Manual shows that the Zumo 665 has a Map Info setting. Go to Settings and see what's there, and which maps are checked:
https://static.garmin.com/pumac/zumo665_OwnersManual.pdf
On the Map Info page, you will see if City Navigator NA 2024.10 is installed and seen by the Zumo. It needs to be checked and the older version unchecked.
It's apparent that your Zumo or its SD card still has City Navigator NA 2023.20 and it's checked. At the least, that map needs to be unchecked, although a better solution may be to delete all the files for that old map. But make sure that the GPS can see and use the newer map before deleting files. It's also a good idea to first create a full backup of the Garmin device and the SD card in case you inadvertently delete a needed file.
Map info page
Yep, that is where it displays the old 2023.20 map version. Before starting the clone update I had copied over the garmindevice.xml file to the /Garmin folder and deleted all the previous map files from both the device and the SD card.
The funny thing is it never displayed that map version until yesterday, after deleting all the map files and performing the update to 2024.10. It has been doing this for many years ever since I started using the cloning method to update. It always shows the version I just deleted. It never bothered me too much, it's just strange. It is remembering from somewhere in it's memory and displaying the previous version.
None of the other Garmins that I clone update do this and the zumo 665 is usually one of the last to be updated.
I might tinker with this again later today, wipe it all and update it again.
P.S. Garmin Express also says it loading 2024.10 North American map during the cloning.

What size SD card?
P.S. Garmin Express also says it loading 2024.10 North American map during the cloning.
What size SD card? A year or so ago I had issues updating while using an 8GB card and had to move to a 16GB card.

16 GB SD
Well I thought I would start fresh. Cleaned everything off the 16 gb SD card and copied the garmindevice.xml file to the /garmin folder, stuck it in my laptop and GE popped up but is only offering me the lower 48 in version 2023.20.
So why does it give me 2024.10 on my other 6 GPSs but is a version behind for the zumo 665? Now it makes a little sense why I have that version but I don't know why it is only offering me 1 version back. Apparently it's been doing this for some time since I first noticed it read a past version for a few years now.
Hmmm,

Wow ... thank you for this information. It's just lazy on their part because they didn't sell enough units.

Cloning.
I am guessing Strephon_Alkhalikoi is correct and have had a similar problem with my old nuvi 855 which is also on the unsupported list. I was however able to do a clutzy workaround with cloning to get the full NA 2024.10 installed on the 855. Here are the basic steps:
1) Find an OLD version of garmindevice.xml from a backup. I used one from 2019. Express offered 2024.10 using this version, but would not offer it using the current version of Garmindevice.xml. It did however only install the lower 48 segment rather than the full NA even though my SD card had plenty of space for all NA. I had enough space in internal memory of the 855 for the gmapprom files and moved them from the SD card to internal memory. I left the \ASR folder and \JCV folder on the SD card, and replaced the small .jcv file with the large .jcv files from my nuvi 755.
2) I copied the other (Canada and Mexico) 2024.10 .img file from one of my newer devices (a nuvi 3597) over to \Garmin folder of the nuvi 855's SD card and renamed it as Gmapsupp.img.
3) I copied the gmapprom.unl and gmapprom.gma that I had moved into internal memory over to the SD card of the 855 into the \Garmin folder renamed these files as gmapsupp.unl and gmapsupp.gma.
4) I booted up the nuvi 855 and had access to the full 2024.10 NA map including Canada and Mexico. It shows on the Map Info screen as CN North America NT 2024.10 [1] All US and CN North America NT 2024.10 [3] WW Autoroute DEM Basemap... Why it shows that name for the Canada and Mexico segment is a mystery, but it works and it shows full detail maps for all of NA. I have tested routes to make sure everything works including the high res junction views.
Will this work for your Zumo 665? I don't know but its worth a try if you have an old backup of the garmindevice.xml. Will it continue to work on future map releases? Doubtful, but again worth a try.

Update
alandb,
Funny thing, I had a 2015 backup garmindevice.xml that I tried. Since 2015 I've had Harleys that have GPS so though I keep the unit updated 2015 was the last full backup I've done. It allowed me to again get All of North America which I haven't been able to do for years but still limited me to 2023.20. One baby step at a time lol.

Strephon,
I followed the instructions and downloads and ended up with the Northeast img file to start learning with. I have not gotten the zumo 665 to see the file though. I've tried the folders on the zumo and the SD card that img files are normally stored but no luck as of yet. I'll work more of this later because this is the direction I'll have to go if I want future updates.
Thanks

Garmin rewriting the XML file
Find an OLD version of garmindevice.xml from a backup.
This is interesting. I wonder what Garmin changed in the XML? Knowing what was changed may be instrumental in bypassing the block, even if only temporarily.

XML differences???

Don't know what was different from 2015 to 2023 in the XMLs to allow the Full N.A maps instead of just the Lower 48. Maybe I'll gander through the files tomorrow a little. But at least the Full N.A area is back even though it's stil 2023.20. It may just be on Garmin's end and how they look at the request coming in.
I'll tinker with the files and the OpenMapChest another time. Time to rest the old eyes.

Sorry you didn't have complete success with this method, and I was surprised myself when it worked. As a follow-up to my post, I wanted to give credit to a couple of other members who came up with the ideas that worked for me. First to POI Factory member melaqueman who reported on the idea of using an old version of garmindevice.xml. Second, POI Factory member Baumback discovered and reported the technique of copying the Canada/Mexico .img file from another device and using/renaming the .gma and .unl files from the US map segment to unlock them. I don't think I would have ever thought of trying either of these work arounds and apologize to these two members for not giving them credit in my earlier post.

OpenMapChest File Not Recognized ... yet!
... If you wish to keep using the zūmo you'll need to rely on OpenMapChest for your map updates.
Strephon,
Just an update on OpenMapChest. I was able to download the U.S. Northeast file using qBTorrent, Unzipped the file and have tried to copy it to multiple folders using multiple naming conventions. It seems my zumo 665 just will not recognize the file for some reason.
filenames tried - gmapsupp.img, gmapsup1.img, gmapomne.img, along witha few others. I did rename the actual Garmin gmapsupp files before using that name.
folders tried on the zumo unit and SD card - /Garmin, /Map, /.system
I haven't tried the file on any othe GPS units yet.

OpenMapChest
Just an update on OpenMapChest.
I genuinely thought OpenMapChest files would help, but had no way of knowing as I don't have a zūmo. OpenMapChest files are based on OpenStreetMap data and are unlocked by default. I've installed OpenMapChest files on all of the GPS receivers I have that do not have lifetime updates and all of them work. Of course, none of the devices I have are on the discontinued list.

Another GPS
I'll give it a try on another of my Garmins to see that I'm doing everything right.
Thanks again.

OpenMapChest on old nuvi 260
Good news - OpenMapChest works as it should on my old nuvi 260 that Garmin stopped updating in 2015 bringing some new life into the old nuvi.
Bad news - Nuvi 260 limitation. I can only put 2 files, the Northeast and the South or Midwest maps, on the unit's SD card using filenames gmapsupp.img and gmagsup1.img in the /Garmin folder. I can not use any other filenames or the nuvi 260 doesn't see the maps. I'm on the western edge of PA, which is part of the Northeast map, I travel frequently west thru Ohio, which is in the Midwest map, and I travel south through West VA and Maryland, both of which are in the South map.
So does anyone know of any other filenames for maps that an old nuvi 260 might like so I might be able to add a 3rd map? None that I have tried work.
Thanks,

Map naming.
Do you have any free space in your internal memory after removing old maps? If so, you could add a gmapprom or gmapsupp there.
The map naming is pretty well locked in on these old nuvis to gmapprom, gmapsupp and gmapsup1, and sadly you can only use the gmapprom name in internal storage.

Zumo 665 now working with OpenMapChest
Update - I downloaded the full U.S. OpenMapChest map for Basecamp though Basecamp has stopped working on my ancient old laptop, but MapInstall is still working. MapInstall was able to see it and I can select areas up to 4 GB (MapInstall limit) to build and transfer to the laptop. It takes a while but it gets the job done. Zumo accepts the file this way. Probably do the same for the old nuvi 260 too.
I've got a working solution now. Thanks for the help.

Try "gmapoem.img". There is a FAQ on the site regarding filenames if I recall.

Strephon_Alkhalikoi & CraigW,
Thanks for the info. Something new to try on the old zumo 665. I'll give it a try this evening or tomorrow and report back.
I will say I didn't think of using gmapsupp.img both on the unit and the SD card, that would give me 2 files if that works on the zumo.

Additional info (may be worthwhile)
I will say I didn't think of using gmapsupp.img both on the unit and the SD card, that would give me 2 files if that works on the zumo.
In the process of attemping to provide some input, I found a thread where is said to use a naming convention with a numeral, i. E, gmapsupp1.img, gmapsupp2.img, etc. So do what those experts suggest and maybe give that a try as well. It was not for a Zumo 665, by the way. It was some form of a nuvi 260 series.
