I have been doing some testing of other maps recently and have even done a couple of posts about it here on POI Factory. For whatever reason I was having a challenge getting OpenStreetMaps (OSM) onto my Garmin Zumo XT. Someone suggested OpenMapChest and worked for me.
I haven't downloaded OSM onto my computer for Garmin BaseCamp, yet, but I might also do that. One of the big draws for me is the new streets show up on OSM much faster than they do Garmin.

OpenMapChest uses OSM data to create the maps. It should load just as quickly on your device.
