Transferring Favorite's from a Drivesmart to a Nuvi

I just got a nuvi 2797 and I'm trying to transfer the favorites from my Drivesmart 65 to the Nuvi 2797. I tried to copy the current.gmx file directly from the 65 to the 2797, and it did not take. So I tried to do the same using Basecamp and that did not work. Are the favorite's format different between the Drivesmart & Nuvi? I'm just trying to use Basecamp for the first time so I may not have done the transfer correctly. Or maybe if the file formats are different and I'm wasting my time and should just type in all the favorite's manually.

Use Garmin Express

I would try Garmin Express. Have your devices ready, then open GE, click on a connected device, then go to Tools & Content, then click Utilities. Transfer Favorites is one of the choices.

Some Models

I'm not sure about the 2797 but on many Garmin's, you have to shut the unit down completely and reboot after doing a file transfer. This forces the unit to load the new files into memory. This may not happen if the unit is in standby mode.

I find file transfer is easier to do using an SD card rather than connecting the GPSr to a computer via USB. When doing it this way, it's important to use the "safe eject" procedure to avoid possible data loss.

It finally worked via garmin

It finally worked via garmin Express from my Drivesmart 65 to the 2797

Well

For anyone else reading this then yes, you can transfer favourites but you must rename current.gpx, which is the file containing your data, to something else, eg temp.gpx

The reason for that is that current.gpx is just a one way copy of the data in internal memory, that data can only be accessed by the device. Current.gpx allows programs like BaseCamp to access it but any changes to current.gpx, like replacing it with another, has no impact on the data you see on your device. It will though add data from another .gpx file to its internal memory then rewrite current.gpx
