Nuvi Mount Ball & Socket

Hi All.

I have a NUVI 3590 and use the "Tongue" mount with the Ball & Socket.

The Ball keeps popping out of the socket so darn easily, it pops loose if I hit a large pothole.

Plus the "Arm" with the socket seems to droop and needs to be tightened up somehow.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to tighten things up with these ball and sockets type mounts?

Thank You !

I would try

Wrapping a piece of cellophane tape around the ball. This may provide enough friction for the ball to remain in the socket.

A past fix

was to simply slip a piece of a paper clip between the metal ring and plastic in the clip that attaches to the GPS. You might have to modify that approach slightly depending on the mount.

I Use

A couple of wraps of Teflon tape on the ball. It's used to seal pipe threads and works well to stabilize the socket joint.

Or...

If you get really fed up with the loose Garmin mount, you can do what I did with all my gamins.

Get this Garmin G ball to RAM adapter:

Then, you can use the myriad of RAM mount products, including their windshield suction cup:

And this clamp to hold the two together:

RAM Mount

I can also recommend the RAM Mounts. My Garmin has been attached to one for over 10 years without failure. Amazon has a good selection to choose from.
