Map install

Is it advisable to update Map install to the latest version? I may be wrong but i thought there was something about installing maps that would not work with the latest version.

At this time my only concern

At this time my only concern would be the next update is right around the corner.. Late even.

In fact I go through that every time I update. Try to limit updating to once a year or less, usually in the spring time.

Hmmm

What do you use MapInstall for? In most cases it's no longer advisable to use MapInstall to install maps.

I don't need MapInstall

I don't need MapInstall these days, as my DriveSmart 65 and nüvi 65LMT both have lifetime map updates for the entirety of North America. When my top device was my 1300LM, it was a different story. I used MapInstall to manually split the maps between device and MicroSD card as Garmin Express wasn't really good at splitting maps. That and the fact Garmin failed Geography and doesn't know the difference between North and South America. q.v. French Guiana, a South American region, appearing in a North American map update.

Arguably the only other reasons for using MapInstall these days are to load a free map that works with BaseCamp and has separate map segments, or to load a map that has been pirated.

Map install.

I thought i used for splitting the NA map as it no longer installs all of NA (CN and Mex),so used it to pick the parts i needed for where i drive most in Canada.

Well ...

Express will do that for you, unless you have one of the few older devices where Express will not recognise an installed sd card. With modern devices you should use Express as map updates contain more than just the map, it contains other files like junction view which are also updated at the same time, with MapInstall those additional files aren't installed.

I use express and it finds

I use express and it finds and installs to my SD card. Never saw a need to split the map up or do anything different.

Oops.

Yeah, this is wrong info. Lower 49 states only.
