PhotoLive on map view

Just bought a Drivesmart 86 on a Black Friday sale, and I'm having trouble with Photolive on the map while driving. When enable it, I gets a caption "No cameras ahead on this road". I can tap on "find cameras" and it will find cameras, I can view them, save as a favorite, etc but I can't view them on the map even if I have a route set. It's supposed to show the nearest camera on your route, and when you pass it, it will switch to the next camera on your route.

I chatted with Garmin support, even sent them screen shots, but the agent said no one has reported this issue and would try to escalate this with Garmin.

According to the manual:

Viewing photoLive Traffic Cameras on the Map
The photoLive map tool shows traffic cameras from the road ahead of you.

From the map, select Map tools menu > photoLive.
The device shows the live image from the nearest traffic camera on the road ahead, along with the distance to the camera. When you pass the camera, the device loads the live image of the next camera on the road.

If no cameras are found for the road, select Find Cameras to view or save nearby traffic cameras (optional).

Some requirements you need to know

Doesn't appear to apply to Drivesmart 86

That link is for the Drive51/61, the manual for the Drivesmart 86 does not say anything about purchasing a service. There appears to be no place to buy it in the new app... Ill try logging into my Garmin account and see if there is anything there.

Is there anyone here using a new 66/76/86?

Those are the correct links for the 86

Just to be sure I'm explaining this right, I can view and save to favorites any camera I wish according to the two links you posted. That tells me the phone is connected to the GPS properly.

What I can't do is view live images on the route map, and have it switch to the next camera as I pass it.

From the same manual:

Viewing photoLive Traffic Cameras on the Map
The photoLive map tool shows traffic cameras from the road ahead of you.

From the map, select Map tools > photoLive.
The device shows the live image from the nearest traffic camera on the road ahead, along with the distance to the camera. When you pass the camera, the device loads the live image of the next camera on the road.

What is the photoLive app?

I can’t identify to your issue with any personal experience, but with respect to the DS 86 I find the following:

“Select Save to save the camera (optional).
A thumbnail image preview of the camera is added to the main screen of the photoLive app.

What is the photoLive app? Is it something that needs to be downloaded and installed? Something resident on some other device, like a smartphone?

I find this on page 41 of the manual. It makes me think you also need Garmin Drive app which interfaces to a phone.

“photoLive traffic cameras

Before you can use this feature, your device must be connected to the Garmin Drive app (Live services, traffic and smartphone features, page 34).

photoLive traffic cameras provide live images of traffic conditions on major roads and junctions. The photoLive service is not available in all areas.”
