New portable screens with Apple Carplay and Android Auto

I just notice few days ago that there few portable display screens with Apple Carplay and Android Auto built-in. You pair these devices with your phone via Bluetooth to user Google maps or Waze or other maps on your phone for navigation. Some of these devices also come with maps pre-installed. You can either use built-in speakers for audio or auxiliary cable for audio in or Bluetooth. They come in different sizes e.g. 7", 9" and 10" wide screen. I ordered 7" screen one yesterday and lets see how long it takes to arrive. I am excited to use this device in my old cars which don't have airplay feature. I use Waze a lot in Toronto area and it is amazing. Garmin traffic is good but does not match with Waze traffic info. Waze is very effective in Toronto downtown with up to date traffic info.

Does anyone has any experience with these new devices?

CarPlay/Android Auto

Looks interesting. Let us know how you like it.

I have CarPlay/Android Auto built into my Kia Optima. It is nice to have, but I prefer the Garmin DriveLuxe/SmartPhone Link navigation over Android Auto so I seldom use it. I have not tried Waze with Android Auto though, so that might be better than Google navigation. What I really wish is that Garmin would come out with an app that runs on Android Auto. I think that is unlikely though, since Garmin and Google are competitors in the navigation world.

Yes, looks very interesting device. I will let you guys know about my experience with it. I like Waze a lot and it is lot better than Google maps. Waze traffic very superior to Garmin traffic in Toronto area. I have iphones so we all use Apple car play in my daughter's Mazda CX-5 and it works great. After seeing Apple Carplay performance in my daughter's car I was looking for something with airplay to pair iphone and use Waze for navigation. I also wished if Garmin could have come up some new innovation with airplay and Android Auto.

Android Auto.

I do find it interesting that my Android phone will pair and work fine with both Android Auto Google navigation and Garmin Smartphone Link simultaneously. So sometimes I will use both just to see what differences in routing/traffic I see. The Smartphone Link traffic reporting in my area is generally better than Google traffic (but not always). I guess I should try Waze sometime. Although I do live in a city, Iowa certainly does not have the traffic density and incidents like a large metropolitan area would have.

Please try Waze, it should

Please try Waze, it should be very good. I like Waze because it is also being updated by drivers about traffic, accidents and police presence etc. and road closures just in case it is updated in the system. it is really good for urban areas. City of Toronto shares traffic data with Waze, so it is amazing in Toronto. But I have seen it is really very good in whole Ontario.

Is this effectively a poor

Is this effectively a poor man's android auto/acp? That is, without replacing the factory stereo?

How does it interface with the factory stereo (or does it)?

I suppose this is one way to get the phone linked in an older car.

I have AA in my stinger. Used it a few times on a long trip, mostly for waze/music. Normally my music is from a usb flash drive. With AA (or ACP), it's either AA or the flash drive, not both as AA takes over the data usb port.

Near interstates everything worked well. Further into rural areas, even without waze going, the music playback was shoddy. It demanded a data connection even when playing local music files (mp3's on the phone). Ultimately I found it more hassle and annoying. Doubt i'll run into much traffic in the middle of nowhere, so back to the factory nav and usb flash drive playback.

Thank

You!

Yes it is kind of poor man's Apple carplay/Android auto device. I would definitely use aux cable to connect to car audio for stable audio. I will know more about this device once I receive it and test it. But so far looks very promising.

I have received my unit few

I have received my unit few days ago. It was very easy to set it up. It look less than three minutes to pair it with my phone. Apple car play works very well. I am using AUX cable for audio into my car's stereo and it works great. Waze works great, phone calls are good and music plays well from phone. I use SIRI for voice commands. So far so good.

Interesting

Is the main attraction that the screen is larger than just navigating on the phone?
