Icons used on route

Can anyone point to a link explaining what the various icons Garmin uses along a route mean? On most routes there is a black flag, similar to what you might find on a golf course and usually on a corner. Yesterday saw a new one, an indented circle. Hovering/clicking? over the icon does nothing.

Tried the "Google" and there are tons of icons that Garmin uses.. but could not find any used along a route.

On a DS65, if it matters.

Thank you for your time.

Have you

tried to zoom in on one of these icons to see if it tells you what it is?

Hmmm ..

I don't get black flags on my Garmins. How has the route been created? Do you do it on your device or send it to your DS using BaseCamp or another way?

Follow up

Establishing a route just by typing in the address, or using the search for a place. Nearly always along the route there will be a black flag, most often on a corner.
I will try a max zoom and see if that identifies anything. Will get a screenshot to show what this looks like.

Thanks almostbob

But nope. None of the flags shown are what I have. Mine is a black triangle with the post coming out of a grey circle.

Can you provide some screenshots so we can see what you're talking about?

Will do

Will do just as soon as I have route that has one. It seems the flag requires I actually drive the route, just using following a route by moving the screen does not produce a flag.

Should ...

Finally..

Took a while to get a route that showed this mystery flag. I hope the link works, I am not very adept at using the "Google cloud thing"

Agree

I also have never seen such a flag.

Hmmm ..

New one on me too. No idea as it doesn't even match any Garmin format I know.

Outside of POI

points (like coffee shops or gas stations) if you have any installed it could be something related to the country (Canada) your in. That would explain why you see it but others, in different countries may not.

One suggestion is to select a few of the black flag locations and look at those locations on a online map (Google/Apple/etc.) to see if there is something in common with each of those locations. Like traffic lights or traffic cameras or the like.

Strange stuff

When this flag shows it is always at a sharp turn off, so could be a warning. But it's never consistent and a route tomorrow over the same area may or may not pop up that flag and certainly it does not flag every sharp turn.
Zooming in, or touching the flag does not bring up any kind of dialog.

Strange stuff

Now I too have done it by posting it twice, not quite sure how but there it is

So the black flags are an

So the black flags are an indicator if you are using Garmin “real directions language “ voice. Like , turn left at the Walgreens. The black flag is the Walgreens. Or turn right at the Shell. The shell would show up in a black flag.

Well

I've been using real directions for years, never had any black flags

Black flags

I've seen them on my DriveLuxe 51 as well. There is the suggestion that it's marking a location identified by Real Direction:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/44485

The very limited number of times I've seen the black flag on a route was when there was a building being identified by Real Directions as an aid to perform an upcoming turn.

I'm now watching for black flags more carefully in case I need to revise my thoughts.

Well

I get lots of 'real directions' and have done so since they were introduced many years ago now.
I have never once seen a black flag so it would surprise me if they were somehow linked to real directions.

Perhaps

Perhaps, it's a North American (Canadian?) thing. But they appear on most of my routes. And, occasionally there will be a different icon, once one that looked like a spaceship/flying saucer and a couple of times icons that "almost" look like a fat gas pump.. but there is no gas station near by.
