Back when I was still working and selling life sciences laboratory instrumentation, my sales territory covered several states including Florida. I left Miami Fl one Friday afternoon to return to my home base in Atlanta.
I decided to drive north through the Florida Everglades on Route 27, a road I had never been on before just to see what the Everglades looked like. The sun was close to setting but it was still light as I drove north on route 27. I expected to see a lot of swamp but most of what I saw as I drove down the highway were very large field after field of sugar cane as far as the eye could see.
It was was around this same time of year, about April, and as I drove through field after field of sugarcane, I noticed rabbits numbering probably in the tens of thousands, between the road and the sugarcane fields. This scene with the rabbits went on for tens of miles. I never before, or since, have seen so many rabbits. It was a sight to behold.
