NUVI Map Update problem

I tried to update my NUVI 660 to the new 2008 Map version and I encountered a problem.

The update was stopping at about 6%. After trying various things I called GARMIN Support.

The problem turned out to be my local USB connection. My USB cable is connected to my Windows PC via a HUB. GARMIN had me connect the USB cable directly to the PC. The update went just fine.

Good to know

There are lots of things out there that connect via usb that have issues when using a hub - I've never tried my Nuvi on a hub - always been in the habit of plugging in direct.

USB hubs are bad in general

The hubs are problematic in general. Generally they are not able to provide the power needed for many of the peripherals, and simply don't work well on the others.

If you need more USB slots, add a card. They are inexpensive, and most of us have plenty of room for an extra card (or two) in the case.

Just a thought.

Actually, I had to go with a Hub for one device

My Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station - have it on my second desktop that runs XP...had com port issues...they told me to put it on a hub - and it works better on the hub than when it's plugged in direct.
