Garmin Base Camp

It's been 2 years, since I used my GPS, thanks to COVID. I just updated my maps and fired up Basecamp. I was surprised that there were no updates and when I went to the Garmin website, there was no mention of anything like Basecamp or any other PC based mapping program.

What other choices are available, or this it?

Try this

Here's the Garmin BaseCamp website: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/software/basecamp/

BaseCamp is available for download. Not that many updates have been happening. It's still my goto GPS management tool.

Another option is the online facility called Garmin Explore.

Try this: https://explore.garmin.com/Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2f

Poke around and see if it can work for you.

The way things are going, you should probably get familiar with Explore, Garmin seems to be heading that way.

Unfortunately Garmin disbanded their BaseCamp team many years ago. Since then the only updates have been essential ones, eg to comply with GDPR. It now is what it is.

Having said that I've found nothing better than it for what I use it for.

BaseCamp Will Be Around for a long time

I spoke with Garmin a couple weeks ago regarding an issue with my new GPSMAP 66sr. We also spoke about BaseCamp and Explore. BaseCamp will be around for many, many years to come to support the millions of GPSr units already in the field. It might not be updated that often since updates were usually to add capability to support new models. So Garmin simply can not obsolete BaseCamp since there are millions of units out there that depend on BaseCamp and are not compatible with Explore, and they will be serviceable for many more years. Explore will be for the newer and modern GPSr units, and will not support older GPSr units.
