Garmin Inreach Communication

Does anyone here have, or have experience with, Garmin's Inreach Satellite Communication service?

It's compatible with several Garmin handheld GPSr's. It requires a monthly subscription plan with varying costs depending on the level of service.

In my travels, I often find myself in remote areas with no cell phone service. I'm not getting any younger and I'm concerned about being able to get help in an emergency.

I'm also in the market for a new handheld GPS. Lately, I've been eyeing the new Montana 700I which is also Inreach compatible.

The Inreach service appears to use the Irridium Satellite system for text only messaging. There is little information available for specific coverage though and I'm wondering just how much better it is than a cell phone. I know this will vary depending on actual location but any thoughts would be appreciated.

Inreach.

You might want to peruse the Groundspeak forum (geocaching). I no longer participate in that forum but I do remember reading some discussions over there regarding Inreach.

Thanks Alan. I used to spend quite a bit of time on Groundspeak back when geocaching was popular. I set & maintained a dozen or so caches on the bike trails I ride. I don't hear much about it these days.
