Base Camp (optimize route)

So, yesterday I needed to come up with an efficient route to find 14 addresses in Edmonton. In a moment of pure inspiration I figured Base Camp would be perfect.. Wrong.. (so far).

A learning curve obviously but I figured there must be a way to just add 14 addresses and the program would lay out the best route.

Anyone care to give me a link. (that uses the latest version of Base Camp). Years ago I had this program to develop a potful of POI's and it seemed far more intuitive then to add addresses or waypoints

Perhaps, it was easier because I was younger

Thanks for your time

I use..

I locate the address with Google Maps & Google Earth then copy & paste the coordinates into Basecamp to create waypoints for a route. I find checking with GE is a good way to weed out errors.

It's a 2 step process but it doesn't take long using a split screen.

Well without knowing where you had a problem it's difficult to help, but I use the search feature to find addresses, create waypoints from them and use the Optimise route feature.

If you find a good route optimization algorithm ...

If you find a good route optimization algorithm UPS, Amazon, FedEx etc. will pay you well.

Find addresses or a "Best" Route given a set of Addresses?

Hi Ralph,

It looks like you are seeking a "best" route given a certain set of addresses, right?

Keep in mind that "best", "optimized", etc. are subjective descriptors.

So, create a route with the desired start and end points, then dump all the other points in between. Then in the bottom left of the route window, there is a pull down menu, select "Optimize Route" and you should be all set.... if that is what you were asking for.

This is how it works on BaseCamp for the Mac.

If not, please clarify what you are seeking.

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

Thanks all

Thanks to all.

Using the search, selecting it from the available choices then creating a waypoint from that choice was the secret. Works good once you know..
So tomorrow I will deliver 14 food packages to seniors with a reasonably efficient route.

Thanks again

Okay but now

Redundant because it's too late for today's run but perhaps for next time.. I made the waypoints and printed the list of addresses and the map, should be good.

But evidently, one can export the addresses and save typing them into the DS65. So, played with that and eventually found all the exported addresses in the Saved Locations. But only in "All Saved Places", not in "Address" or "Destinations". That works, but.

I guess I was expecting them to show in the same place where all my other "Recent" addresses are. I also expected the complete route to be exported but if it was I could not find it on the DS65.

Specifically then, how does one export a complete route from Basecamp. And, where does one then find it on the DS65

Thanks again for your time

Well

Exported waypoints will appear in Saved places, that is normal.

If you send a route you'll find it in trip planner. You export it either by using the drag/drop method or right click it and select Send to ... you should then be able to select your device.

Thanks, never looked in the trip planner.

And now

Not drag this on forever.. But is there a way to have a saved place "without" the "In Your Face" huge heart? Can I have a saved place without an icon or at least a small.. something?

Or.. am I overlooking the obvious and Garmin calls those POI's

Cheers
Ralph

Well

You can't change the size, but you can switch off the display of saved places. Go to Settings, Map & Vehicles, Map layers and untick Up ahead places
