W10 meets my needs too.

I manually d/ll it the first

Taskbar

Not sure about bat files but you can pin shortcuts to Taskbar. You may have to click more options when you right click the mouse. Some shortcuts need to be moved to desktop first then pin to Taskbar .I have apps and shortcuts on my taskbar.

There is now a known registry hack...

...for bypassing the Windows 11 requirement of TPM 2.0.

The TPM 2.0 requirement prevents many 3+ year old PCs from being able to upgrade to Win 11. I figured it would be a matter of time before a hack was found to bypass this requirement, and that is the case.

The hack does not work if you don't have TPM 1.2 enabled or a 1GHz dual-core 64-bit CPU or better, which still leaves many PCs that can run Win 10 shut out. I've seen mixed reports on whether editing the Registry will allow a PC that does not offer SecureBoot or 4+ GB of RAM to upgrade to Win11. Why anyone would want to run a new Windows install with fewer than 4 GB of RAM is another question.

You can read more detail about the TPM 2.0 hack on many websites including: https://www.askwoody.com/newsletter/free-edition-a-single-re...

My advice remains: patience, grasshopper. There is little if any reason to rush into upgrading to Win 11 now. Let other people find the inevitable early problems and fixes for them.

I can search for those but still need time to adjust to this new system.

It's likely KB5006670 is affecting Windows 11 printing too. Do you have KB5006670 installed?

lost anyway on TPM 2.0 hack

Lost Anyway, you hit the nail on the head with the askwoody article. Woody writes very clearly and he really knows what he is doing. In this case he is giving us a lot of insight about the reason the TPM requirement is happening, or won't happen. I am standing pat with Windows 10 and will wait until it all shakes out. That might take 5 years!

Thanks

It can be loaded on many incompatible computers

You can get around a lot of "incompatibility"
I posted the method or you can search for it.
My old HP laptop would not load until I copied the sources folder.

Wish me luck, hopefully of the good variety twisted

Win 11's been available now for about three weeks and I figured that I would upgrade when it became offered on my Acer PC's Windows Update. I figured the Update method would be easier than the ISO method and it also gave me a couple weeks or more of watching to see if problems arise and even see that Win 11's first patch has been available, I think.

Hopefully I'll come back and report later today that all is well.

_______

Update:

My Win 11 update went well. My PC has a SSD C drive, 100Mbps internet and a fast router.

For those wanting to know the time involved for a Windows Update method to get Win 11, here goes:

Download: 13 minutes (The first 10-12% of the download was slow and made me think it'd be an hour, but it sped up to be complete in the 13 minute timeframe)

Install: 37 minutes

Restart: As the installation was complete, I clicked the Restart button. There was one auto restart after that. I was taken to my login page after 6 minutes and two minutes later, was at my desktop.

Doing another Windows Update (after finding the Settings tab) showed one update available and it was a short download/install. Upon reaching the desktop again and going to Windows Update, I was found to be up to date.

Before coming back here to offer this update report, I tried to do a wireless print job to my Canon printer and it worked so I won't have to hunt for an updated Canon driver.

Knock on wood, so far so good!

Great recap

I have the following

"Get ready for Windows 11"
"To see if this PC can run Windows 11, check the hardware requirements or visit your PC manufacturer's website."
"Check hardware requirements" (link)

I too don't see any need to update unless it does it automatically. It will probably set like this for a year or so like the last update did.

It won't be long until I am wanting a new PC anyway . I got this one just as Windows 10 came out and there were problems. I will wait until Windows 11 has been out a while before I do get a new one so they can work out the bugs before I buy it.

I tried to reinstall the

I tried to reinstall the driver, but win 11 couldn't detect the device. My idea is it's win 11 which is having issues with current drivers.

I haven't tried it yet but

I haven't tried it yet but plan to try soon.

Downloaded W11 a few weeks ago

...and I'm pretty happy with it. It doesn't seem all that different to me from W10.

The only downside that I've noticed so far as it pertains to me is that I don't like the start menu as well as previous versions. There are a couple of companies already making software that can "fix" that issue for the most part. I might give one of them a try someday, but for now I'll see if I can get used to the current setup. It's not a big deal though.

On the plus side, the overall user experience seems to be pretty good. Maybe it's just my imagination but things just seem to run a little bit smoother and/or quicker now. I have no regrets going to W11.

Got some parts to play with

Got some parts to play with from microcenter.

Ryzen 5700G cpu
Asrock b550 taichi board

Chose the cpu for its onboard video. The board was a few ($40-50) more than lower priced b550 boards but included dp 1.4 and hdmi 2.1. Also, both the ethernet nic and wifi are intel (i225-v, and ax200 respectively). Also has 3 x16 slots (x8/x8/x4), the last one off the chipset. I doubt i'll ever put this thing to use in a server application, but it's nice to have the option. I using an x570 based board with proxmox.

Anyways, waiting for more ram to arrive tomorrow, but did play around with win11 and 8gb of ram. I do run a debloat process on every windows install (https://community.spiceworks.com/scripts/show/4378-windows-1...) This hasn't been updated for win11 yet. Main use of this pc will be htpc, so win11 annoyances won't be much issue. Kodi is use primarily along with mpc player for things kodi can't play (very rarely).

First impression after spending maybe 30 min with it is, it takes more clicks to get to various settings such as network adapter. I may just end up installing the latest win10 and leave it be until this time next year.

still on the fence

My checkbook software is pre-windows 7 and I was nervous to go to windows 10 because i haven't found any simple versions that match its [limited] functionality. I'm guessing I will do the switchover during the holidays so that I can revert back to 10 if the checkbook software stops working.

Will I be able to CLEAN INSTALL ?

I would like to clean install win 11 since my desktop running windows 10 is having some glitches from having too many programs installed and removed from it all these years. I'm concerned that by choosing clean install option, the update will not recognize the old product key. Since the key is OEM-DM, Copying it down & reapplying at installation is not an option. Any suggestions?

Once Windows 11 or Windows 10 has been properly activated, the product key is no longer necessary in future installations for the same computer. After the installation, Windows will (at some point) reactivate automatically. To check your Windows 10 activation .Click on settings and type in Activation then click, see if windows is activate. Last, click on activation state. More info https://www.windowscentral.com/how-do-clean-install-windows-... .Windows 11 works great and learning curve almost zero. Not sure why some are waiting to download a new windows system that is free for Windows 10 users and puts a little sip in your computer. Not a gamer but reports show good results.

Because there's usually teething periods with any OS. I value stability over performance. In my case, win11 may go on a non primary pc so I can play around with it, figure out if there's work arounds for things I don't like, etc.

Generally I think there's more "sip" (zip?) by eliminating windows bloatware than upgrading to a new os.

I'm still using quicken 2013 because that was the last version before they required you to sign in with a cloud account.

Hasn't MS been down that "not allowing other browsers" tack before. Seems like they lost that lawsuit years ago. What's different now?

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

Got a Win 11 computer a few

Got a Win 11 computer a few days ago since my old one didn't have TPM or the ability to add it and the CPU was also not supported and it was time to upgrade. It takes some getting used to Win 11 as the interface is a little different than Win 10 and same for MS Office Professional 2021.

I played around with a beta in a vm few weeks ago. Not impressed. I will install it on the htpc as it's a noncritical box in the house. It's used only for kodi/firefox.

I let others have the first experience. There's a new firmware update for my car - rolled out a week ago. I'm waiting til next spring to flash it. It's just not that important.

I'd strongly recommend you make an bit copy image of your HDD, SSD, NvME before moving to Win 11.

That way, you can:
▪︎upgrade
▪︎restore using MS'S process
▪︎Swap drive to pre Win 11 upgrade and continue on with life pre-Win 11 upgrade

But, that's me being overly cautious and not trusting MS's recovery process...

If your problems continue, you may need to use something like jv16 PowerTools ( https://jv16powertools.com ) to remove invalid; broken registry links before you reinstall your drivers / programs.

^^Yup. Just saw the ISO posted on techbench this afternoon. Must say, MS has some might fast servers. They are the only site which fully saturates my gig link (~115MB/s). The iso took about 45sec to download. No concurrent connections, just a single download.

It looks like win11/ryzen is still having performance issues even with the amd & ms patches.

I played around a bit with win11 on that new box I was building. As I think I mentioned earlier, more eye candy. Lets hope there's genuine improvements under the hood too. I'm sure eventually they'll get the ryzen issue fixed. Don't care to be the beta tester while they do.

Depending on workload, a comparable intel cpu costs more in terms of electrical cost (heat).

Hello everyone,If you want

Hello everyone,

If you want to upgrade your 3-4 years old computer to Windows 11, which is not meeting Microsoft requirements, there is a very easy method of doing it. Let me explain you how to do it.
here are the steps:

1. Make sure your Windows 10 is registered with Microsoft.

2. You need USB (Thumb) drive which has more than 8-10 GB space on it.

3. Open Microsoft Windows 11 Download website and download Microsoft Media installation Tool:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows11

and download Create Windows 11 Installation Media..

4. When you run this tool, select to save files on USB drive.

5. It will rename USB drive to ESD_USB. Once your USB drive is ready with Windows 11 files.

6. Go to USB drive and open folder called "Resources" and delete the following file: appraiserres.dll.

7. Reboot your computer from USB drive and continue Windows 11 install.

8. Enjoy Windows 11..
