still driving much less

Because all our state inspections are coming due, I looked up the mileages on our 3 cars.

My wife's SUV is the family car and it went 6,900 over the last 12 months.

My daily driver which was doing 12-14k shocked me--1,400 miles.

Our 3rd car is like 200.

Kind of interesting I never had the guts to drop comp/collision on at least 2/3, if not all 3. The newest car is a 2011 so they are not new, 2006, 2007, 2011.

That's life and how we as humans are risk averse.

I never buy comprehensive insurance for my cars. My father joked that he would disinherit me if I ever borrowed money to buy a car ("just buy the one you can afford"). So I never had the problem of the loan holder requiring comprehensive.

The insurance company knows the odds. Buying insurance against losses you can actually afford if need be is literally "betting against the house".
