Any JVC navigators out there??

Just bought a JVC GPS and was wondering if any others out there? So far I really like the unit other than not being able to down load movies on the free space of the HDD!

POIs

I'm curious to learn if it works with custom POIs. I haven't used any JVC models before.

I looked at the JVC unit too

I looked at the JVC unit too and couldn't find any way to add them other than through the direct screen user interface, meaning you couldn't load a custom POI file. I never confirmed that with JVC, but that was when I started considering the Mio and why I ended up getting it instead.

FL shakedown

Well I am going to be heading down to FL on the 6th of Jan for a little vagabonding with our new 5th wheeler. I sure wish I had it when I went to NH this fall!! That trip up there was a trip from hell!! I used Google Earth to plan my route. Think those planners are on crack or smokin sumthing!! The GPS would have been a real help. Just using it around here has been fun. So It should help me keep out of trouble this trip. Only bugaboo has been trying to load video files ! Keeps telling me unsupported ?? Which I know what it means but I am using the correct file extension?? I was very surprised at how well the audio files sounded! very good for the size of the unit. So I can listen to mp3 files and be voice guided while I travel down the yellow brick road..

I tried finding the AV

I tried finding the AV format required in the users manual, and oh that didn't go anywhere. I must say that they didn't do you any favors with that manual, it's almost useless.

I would suggest trying different video formats, say start with mpeg, then wmv, the avi, then go from there. I found out through trial and error that my Mio only plays MP3 audio files and would accept, but not play wma or mp4 or any other. Odd, especially since the unit is WindowsCE, but the manual also didn't mention that fact. Yours might be similar where it only plays one format.

Last piece of the puzzle!!!

Well the last piece of the puzzle fell into place today! I knew if I kept at it that it would fall into place!! The problem all this time was screen size!!!I noticed that it would play music videos but not movies! The music vids were 352x288 and a movie file was like 640x480. I found a program called WinAVI video converter. There was a check box that you could change the size so I converted a movie AVI file to WMV using the the 352x288 size and BINGO it worked. Yer right about the manual it really sucks!!! That little piece of info would have saved me a lot of grief. All in all I really like the unit also downloaded about 200 MP3 files ! Pretty cool can use the Nav and listen to music at the same time! Also the videos play very nice with good sound!!

Sounds very nice. I'm

Sounds very nice. I'm considering loading the video player software into my Mio, but not sure that using up that much memory for something I'll likely hardly ever use is logical. I've actually removed all the foreign language files and map databases for states that I won't go near to free up more memory in the unit...

Extra space!!

I figuired that havin 5 gig of free space should not go to waste! I have 30 music vids 200 MP3 and 3 movies and I still have over 2 gigs of space left! So while I am sittin in my truck while the wife is in Wally World I can sit and watch a movie!! Don't get better than that ! then it tells me how to get home!!!LOL AND I still have a SD card I can use , as soon as I buy one!!!!!!!!!

Wow, now that's got a hard drive in it! Mines got 1 gig of user space built in and I've only got like 275 meg left. I use my SD card for maps so it's almost full too.
