Has Anybody Here Ever Submitted Information To Garmin About Closed Roads?

As posted above, has anybody here ever submitted information to Garmin about closed roads? If so, did they update the information?

My son attends college at the University of Minnesota Duluth. There is a road nearby that has been closed, but Garmin still tries to route me through that area. They have it closed with so-called "Jersey" barriers, but it seems like this is a long term, permanent closure. I really don't know how Garmin gets information on roads, when they close like that. A road close to where I live put cul-de-sacs in the middle of the road and that does now show on the maps.

I will gladly submit the information, but if they only update based on information from the local road authority, I won't bother Garmin.

You will likely get more

You will likely get more response from Here, who is the map supplier. It seems to have gotten a little more difficult to report stuff, but you can start at this link. https://mapcreator.here.com

You may also make reports to Garmin here,

Excellent! Thank you.

I was ignored

Last century when maps were distributed on DVDs (CDs?) I submitted perhaps a half dozen corrections in NM. IIRC I was ignored. Sadly I learned from that.

Is “Here” the map supplier for Garmin?

I can’t find any mention of Garmin on the “Here” website. Are they a supplier of the maps for Garmin devices?

[EDIT] Never mind, I now see that what was formerly known as Navteq is now HERE and was acquired from Nokia back in 2015.

Go to Here.com

You will find a "Report A Map Issue" button. Click that and follow the directions. I have made corrections and, while it took a little time, the map was eventually corrected. A year is normal but it can take as little as six months. Waze is the quickest that I have seen. You make a correction on Waze and it will usually show up in two or three days. I actually made one correction and it showed up 24 hours later.

Waze is crowd sourced and they have a pretty large and well versed set of folks that oversee map edits. they have the power to correct the data base upon approving correction. How quickly that will migrate over to Google Maps is debatable.

Fixed

I fixed the road on HERE MapCreator.
HERE doesn't like just splitting roads with a small gap, so I've found that splitting the road and making a "pedestrian road" through the barrier helps in the approval process (after all, a pedestrian can go through the barrier, just not a vehicle). It will take a little while for the update to go through, and we have to monitor it to make sure it doesn't revert back. HERE's approval process is sometimes janky.

Oh, wow, thank you so much! Hopefully, the URL for satellite image was helpful with the Jersey barriers shown.

On an slightly related note, I am a member at https://www.cellmapper.net/ One of the things you can do is submit locations of cell phone towers, but since I have not submitted that much data yet, I get the message "An error occurred:
Not enough points and cells discovered, please try again once you have more mapped."

So, I shared the photo, from Google Maps, and FCC data confirming that a location near me was, in fact, an AT&T tower with a fellow member and he was able to add the data.

definitely takes a long time

there was a road that got rerouted and garmin would route me through a grassed in, fenced area that was where the old road used to be. it took over three years of reporting it after each update before it finally got corrected.

Sore Subject!

My neighbor and I have used the above mentioned links for over 2 years now to get an error corrected with no results.

He has a horseshoe driveway with two entrances on the main road. Due to it's length, E-911 laws require it to be a named road. For some reason, the HERE maps cause GPSr's to route deliveries to my address on the main road through his driveway.

"Private driveway" and "Not a Thru Road" signs are posted but are mostly ignored by delivery drivers. Several trucks have become stuck in the narrow lane causing damage to both the driveway and vehicle. My neighbor would like to take legal action but does not know where to start. Who is at fault, the GPSr manufacturers or HERE??

I offered to help him install a gate but he gets frequent visits from friends and family, many of whom are elderly and not capable of opening it.

The really sad part is, even if we get HERE to correct the map, most of these delivery drivers use maps that are out of date. It will take many years before the problem goes away.

Need to teach the delivery people how to read.

We need to change the attributes then

Then we need to update the map data to state the driveway is 'local traffic only', so it won't route through it. What's the name of the road?

Quite

Few Years ago I tried, and failed, and posted my complaints here....

As Luck would have it......

A User here was a contributor at places that mattered, and I posted to him the craziness of how the road here was closed

This happened in the mid 1990's.....
(Argument between owner of property and a Developer..... Ended up with Owner Dynamiting a bridge (He Owned) to prevent Access road to Development across a stream to be used!!

I'm Not Kidding!!! This cut off the Main Road in our development from State Highway Access!!!

Developer had to create a new road into development elsewhere, but the Dynamited Bridge and Road was never Removed by Here, Garmin, or Whoever APPLE uses..... But the Road Removal was Seen and updated by Google Maps...

The Newly added road into Developemnt was updated by all, but the Original Road across bridge over stream ALSO remained.... And deliveries to the upper part of the development via GPS's were routed to a bridge over a Stream that NO LONGER EXISTS!!!!

This removed road was not updated for many years, and multiple vehicles came close, and a couple did go into the stream following their GPS's!!!
It took some time, and Apple had to be approached even after Here and Garmin fixed this....

His half mile long driveway is called "Orchard Hill Lane".

Unfortunately, my neighbor is 85 and will likely never see an end to this problem even if the map database is fixed. Most of the delivery drivers are using older GPSr's with maps that haven't been updated for many years.

I'll fix it in HERE Map Creator, but I need to also know the city/state.

Thanks!

It is "Orchard Hill Lane" in Berlin Twp., Wayne County, PA. You can see it in Google Earth if you zoom in on these coordinates:
N41 33.635 W75 12.722

We gave up trying to fix this because the GPSr's most people use these days are woefully out of date. When asked, the delivery drivers don't even know how to update the maps in their 10 year old units.

Sadly, my 85 year-old neighbor likely won't see an end to this problem even if this database issue is fixed.

Thanks for your help!

So yes, the road had the same attributes as any other road. I indicated that it was for Local Traffic Only. This will prevent routing through the road. That's all I can do from this end!

Thanks!

Hopefully, whoever lives on Orchard Hill Lane 10 years from now won't have this problem! It will fix the database for Google Maps sooner but not many use it around here.

Thanks again for your help.

That is a good question

That is a good question because that has happened to me more than once and had to recaululate a new route
