BC-40 / DriveSmart 65

I had my Honda in for service, and they loaned me a 2019 H-RV while the service was being done. It had a factory installed backup camera, and I was able to compare it with my BC-40.

My BC-40 is paired with my DriveSmart 65. I like this combination setup much better than the factory solution.
1. The view is much larger.
2. The screen is much brighter.
3. The boundary lines are adjustable on the BC-40.
4. There are four horizontal boundary lines on the BC-40, but only three on the factory unit.
5. There are times when the rear view camera can be useful when the transmission is not in reverse. A single click makes this happen.

The only possible factory installation superior feature is that it is activated every time the transmission is put into reverse. I do not find this to be a problem. A simple click or voice command activates the BC-40.

I have made all of the software update for the DriveSmart 65, and they seem to have had an effect on the battery life of the BC-40. Energizer batteries were installed 06/10/2020 and lasted until 10/12/2020. That's four months and two days.

I am very pleased with the BC-40, DriveSmart 65 combination.

BC40 and Drivesmart 55

I'm running the BC40 with a Drivesmart 55 and it's OK. Better than having no backup camera. Only thing I don't like about it is that the camera has zero security from being stolen in 2 sec.

Lines Curve with steering

The BC-40 has no information about the movement of the steering wheel. On rental cars I see the lines move as the steering changes and I view that as a definite advantage.

I have BC-40 for almost two

I have BC-40 for almost two years. It is better than not having anything for backup assistance. I have noticed that when you start car, it connects very fast but if you try to switch to view camera any other time, it takes long time to connect.

handshaking time is proportional to wi-fi busy

What I *think* I see is that the handshaking time is proportional to how busy the wi-fi landscape is.

A month or two ago when I turned on the BC-40 at the border of my cul-de-sac and my driveway the connection would fail. This happened three or four times in a row. The neighbors said that they made no wi-fi changes. The problem went away as mysteriously as it started. I should add that elsewhere it worked fine.
