garmin dezi 770

I have a problem I can't figure out, I updated my gps's today, my nuvi 52 updated just fine, my dezi 560 updated fine.
when I connected my Dezil 770 it showed up in my drives on the computer, but garmin express could not see it to update it. poi express can see it and the memory card it has and can update it. so took garmin express out and reinstalled it. but when I connect it and express trys to find it it can not find it to install it into the program. Tried on a different computer and it configured and install the 770 as a drive but garmin connect still can't find it. it works fine but just can't update anything on it.
Thanks for any help

Very interesting

I have a similar situation. My nuvis and Drives all updated their maps just fine.

For the "fun" of it a few months ago, I found a Garmin fleet 670 (commercial trucker's GPS) on eBay for a steal and won the auction. I was able to update the fleet to a new Garmin North America map with Garmin Express when it arrived in the mail.

My fleet 670 seems to have only a MTP setting with no MS option. But even in MTP mode, the Windows PC sees the fleet and its folders/files, POI Loader sees and loads POIs to the fleet, but trying two Windows PCs, multiple USB ports and using a genuine Garmin cable that updated my nuvi/Drive models, Garmin Express will not recognize that the fleet is connected. I also uninstalled/reinstalled Garmin Express as you did with no fleet luck.

We seem to have identical issues with Garmin Express not recognizing our two "unusual" Garmin devices and this must be an issue with the updated Garmin Express software that needs to be fixed.

Should you decide to contact Garmin customer service, let them know you're not alone with the problem. And if anyone else here at The Factory has a thought, be sure to respond. (But please first read what we've said before you suggest we try a different USB port, a genuine Garmin cable, uninstall/reinstall, switch to MS mode, don't use a USB hub, etc. wink )

garmin 770 not connecting to garmin express

well little more news this morning. I went to a backup I have and installed garmin express from there. There must be a hitch in the newest garmin express becasue the old version works just fine to update my dezl 770. waiting for garmin to contact me with some information but not holding my breath.

Good work

Well, that's great and incriminates GE7.1 for sure.

The Garmin Forum has a thread started showing the problem also includes the RV660 and Monterra. Do we have any RV660 or Monterra owners with the problem, at least for PC users?

I posted in another

I posted in another thread....

RV 760

I have an RV 760 that is due for an update. I think I'll wait until Garmin fixes this issue.

Thanks for posting.

....waiting....

Yes indeed, whether trying or not, you may be waiting...

It could be useful if you'd just connect the RV760 to a computer and see if Garmin Express sees it so that you could report back to us to see if it's affected.

Ah, I was wondering if the message board would capitalize the w in my subject since it wasn't the first character. Now I know, it did capitalize my w.

Updated my Dezl 770 No Problems

Updated several days ago and no problems with function or computer seeing it. Using Windows 10.

What I would like to do that I can't seem to is see if my Dezl has more than one map installed as I'm getting real close to hard drive at 100%. I have installed a 32GB card and it has not asked yet yo use it when updating and I've deleted voice, text and other files I could delete. I've tried showing hidden files and tried making it a mass storage device and still can't see map files as you could with old garmins.

Possible Windows 10 problem?

While we are waiting to see whether Garmin fixes the problem, remember that Windows 10 has a history of breaking various apps (programs) in strange ways that can be related to Windows Update. Some Windows 10 PCs have different updates than others. Perhaps this is not Garmin's fault.

Was your 'several days ago' before or after Garmin Express updated to 7.1.0? It's only the latest GE 7.1 that's causing this issue. I just checked the Garmin Forums and yet another dezl 770 user states GE7.1 won't recognize the GPS.

PS: If you've already changed from MTP to MS mode and checked "show hidden files," then it's almost certain that you still need to uncheck "Hide system files" or some wording similar to that in Folder Options. Then you'll see the .system folder where all the big files are.

Seeing devices

Some reports suggesting that only one Garmin program should be running at once so try only have Express running or BaseCamp running but not both.

Interesting but not relevant to my fleet 670 failure. I never run or use Basecamp and I also uncheck GE from running in background. When I start GE to do a map update, it's the only running Garmin program.

It also begs the question of why only a few models (the less-common truck, motorcycle, RV and hiking devices) are failing to be recognized while the old nuvis and Drives have no problem.

Garmin needs to either fix the problem with GE 7.1 if a quick fix, or if 7.1 offers no critical benefit, it could remove 7.1 and return to 7.0.1 or whatever the previous working version was. I think Garmin has offered, then removed, earlier versions of software updates when a problem has been reported.

Your suggestion is a good one though and it'd be useful for others with a GE-non-recognized device to ensure that they aren't simultaneously running other Garmin software when trying to update a device with Garmin Express, then report their finding here at on the Garmin Forums.

Another unanswered question is if this is a problem only with Windows PCs or if Mac users also have the issue.

Garmin Dezl 770

Mine is doing the same with the new Garmin Express 7.1.0.0 it wont detect it but the older version's do.

Now Dezl 770 not seen......

Dezl 770 not seen in Garmin Express but computer see's it. Old 765T and Nuvi 2558 is seen by GE and computer. All had the newest map update. I don't have or use basecamp.

These have a competely different set of operation systems, to deal with vehicle size routing and Hours Of Service monitoring,

Darrell1949, I just did the same. I uninstalled GE 7.1 and installed 7.0.2, skipping the "found new version" button and connected my fleet 670. It was recognized and successfully updated both map and a couple tiny software issues just as you found.

Here's hoping for a fix before the next software or map update comes out.

garmin 770

well I finally heard back from Garmin support. I went back to GE version 6.29.0 and the 770 works just fine with it. message from Garmin is this...
Thank you for your reply and the info, I apoo. We recently released Garmin Express version 7.1.1.0 that resolves this issue. Please update Garmin Express using the steps in FAQ Updating the Garmin Express Application.

But then again I have heard people saying that version 7.1.1.0 does nothing to fix the problem so going to stay with my early version of GE untill it is fixed.
