thank you, I needed that.

thank you, I needed that.

Question?

Is this a recent change to POI Factory? Heretofore it seems that it was always necessary to copy and paste the download link to Mega.nz to perform a file download. Now the download link is clickable. What changed? I like it. smile

Just looking at your original post, the link all fits in one line. Hit QUOTE and you will see what I mean. Evet though the link shows truncated in the shown post. I think that links that won't fit on one line may not show as a link.

Thank you for making this available for us. Much appreciated! smile

Thanks for sharing the link. Learned first time what JCV files are.

First time considering using it. It appears you have to make an account with the website that offers it? What am I agreeing to in making an account?

Not on one line in my case

I think,

The link isn't on one line in my case; the "NM" at the very ends wraps to a different line.

At least in Chrome , the simplest thing seems to be right clicking on the line and then select "Open link in new tab". You'll go directly to the download page.

I do have an account there, but I can download without logging in so I would guess you should be able to also.

No Account Needed

You don’t need an account to download the file.

NA City Navigator 2021.20

Thanks for sharing this link. I didn't know what the .JCV was either. i only have NACN 2019. Will it work with this map and how can I download 2021.20?

No.

The JCV file version must match the map version. If your 1490 does not have a lifetime map subscription, you cannot legally download City Navigator 2021.20 unless you purchase it. For a device as old as a 1490, it would not be worth the cost of purchasing a map IMO.

See:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45292

For those going to the effort of installing the Large JCV file, remember that each City Navigator North America map update requires a JCV file intended for that map update—e.g., a JCV file from the 2016.10 map will not work with the 2016.20 map.

Note: The large JCV file in the recent past is offered at a file download site very soon after a new City Navigator map update is offered. The file is available until the next map update is issued by Garmin at which point, the newer JCV file is offered and the older one(s) are gone. If you need a large JCV file for a specific version of City Navigator, download and save it when it's available as it will likely be gone in a few months. Because of the size of the large JCV file, it's unlikely for there to be an archive created of past versions for download.

Thank You and I totally agree that its not worth paying for a map for my old 1490T. However its been working for me all these years and saved me lots of traffic headaches. But perhaps its time for a new one. What do you suggest with lifetime traffic and maps and good voice command?

My 2 cents

My preference would be for a unit with a powered mount which limits choices now.

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45200

On the other hand, I've not hesitated to look to Factory-refurbed units with a warranty or good used devices, even from individual sellers on eBay or the like. Just do your homework when buying used and check out the seller, etc.

If you have or plan to get a smartphone, you can ignore the need for a GPS with FM or HD traffic and use Garmin's smartphone app to communicate traffic info and more to the GPS. Be sure to install the proper app of the two available based upon the GPS you have and of course, make sure the GPS can work with smartphones and the Garmin app.

If you're OK with non-powered mounts, look to the various Drive models now but I'd suggest avoiding the plain Drive and go for something like a DriveSmart or such device. Of course, for our Northern Neighbors, make sure you get one with the North America map and not just the USA. wink

Hopefully, someone will add a comment of the good GPS sites that sell Factory refurbs at good prices and preferably with a Canadian online site for you.

I was considering the DriveSmart 61 NA LMT-S but does it not use your phone's data for traffic with the app? Also many Amazon reviews reports that it keeps rebooting.

I was going to suggest that the DriveLuxe 51 refurb for $99 is hard to beat (https://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-DriveLuxe-51-LMT-S-with-N...).

But if you want to use a Traffic Receiver instead of SmartPhone Link, that would be an additional cost.

I bought the DriveLuxe 51 from thegpsstore.com because like you said $99.99 is hard to beat. Although it end up costing me just as much to ship it to my address in Canada ($50 US + 28 for duty). Which is still 1/2 the price of a new one. Waiting for arrival.
