How Many Are Getting Their Real ID's?

Starting October 1, 2020, every state and territory resident will need to present a REAL ID compliant license/ID, or another acceptable form of identification, for accessing Federal facilities, entering nuclear power plants, and boarding commercial aircraft. The card, itself, must be REAL ID compliant unless the resident is using an alternative acceptable document such as a passport. The Act does not require individuals to present identification where it is not currently required to access a Federal facility (such as to enter the public areas of the Smithsonian) nor does it prohibit an agency from accepting other forms of identity documents (such as a U.S. passport or passport card).

Details are available here: https://www.dhs.gov/real-id-public-faqs

A Real ID isn't absolutely necessary and many won't need to get one. However, if you travel frequently, as many of us here at the Factory do, a Read ID can be convenient.

Although the deadline is a year away, my wife and I chose to get ours this past March when our home state began issuing them. In our case, it saves us the hassle of getting out and carrying our passports for domestic travel.

I'm curious. How many here have or are planning to get their Real ID's?

I am in Ohio...... as I stated previously.

Okay, your Ohio driver license + passport got the job done, but without the passport your license would not have been enough. According to the Ohio .pdf an old style driver license is valid only for establishing your address. On the other hand, what your local BMV office allows is an entirely different issue.

Phil

I really don't see what you are arguing about.
Of course a Drivers license CANNOT be used alone.
The PDF clearly states "2" proof of adress, etc. Why is that confusing that I used a driver's license and a passport?

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

In Case You Wondered About Any Difference

Since many people spoke about having a gold star on their driver's license, I have a black star on my license and I wondered about any difference between the two stars.

From the Georgia Drivers License website:

"What’s the difference between a black star and a gold star on a Georgia driver’s license?"

"There is no difference between a black and gold star on a Georgia driver’s license. Each of these stars in the top right corner of your driver’s license indicates REAL ID compliance."

Got mine when it first came

Got mine when it first came out did not want to use my Passport to travel domestic

This article (linked below) doesn't address the star specifically but shows the differences in licenses. New licenses have better security and are the ones with the black star. One thing I noticed was the black and white photo. My US Passport card has the black and white photo and I never knew why it wasn't color like the actual passport. The article explains the black and white photo is harder to duplicate.
