School zone popup with new map update

Interestingly, it is also a DriveSmart, although a 51. My DriveLuxe 51 has never shown this (unless I, or the original owner of my used DriveLuxe, disabled it) although it does do the standard alert for school zones so it'll be interesting to see how many models have this "feature." I must admit that I agree with dbusguy in that I don't like a required touch to clear the warning to again be able to view the map. Both your image and the link I offer show it with a "0" meter or feet warning. Does your warning start at some positive distance that counts down to 0 as you approach it?

From what you say, your DriveSmart didn't do this until you updated to the current map, right?

Never seen that on my DRIVE 51 and I drive past 2 or 3 schools every day. That makes me glad I got the DRIVE and not the DRIVESMART!

I suspect it was a software update rather than the map update that did this.

I don't think that that is correct. I have been getting that on my DriveSmart 51 since 2020.10 if not before. I live ~400 yards from a school on the list and the pop-up only occurs on one (of three) approaches to the school. One item different on that approach is that it occurs shortly after startup and before the groggy GPS has thrown up it's first map. The pop-up also goes away shortly after passing the school.

Updated the map when it first came out. I haven't seen any school zone notices on my 3590. Either I haven't been close enough to a school or it isn't available for my GPS.

I think this only applies to the DRIVE or DRIVExxxx series.

School Zones seem to be rather haphazardly added to a map. In Edmonton they started showing up ~ 4 years ago but many schools are not included.. yet. And now, all playgrounds are 30 KPH 7 days a week from 0730 to 2100 and some.. include a school So the whole thing is a mess and one can not blame the map makers to throw up their hands in frustration.

Y'all gave me things to try and look for. I can confirm it does show a countdown to the school zone and if I'm not too impatient and leave it alone, it will clear on it's own. It does happen right after start up and I drive immediately. Yes the regular map has not fired up, hence this pop up warning. If I delay in driving or open the map, this does not pop up. And finally, this did not exist on 2020.10 and did start with the install of 2020.20. While this does not match with everybody else, this is how mine preforms.

Garmin too often in the city, but when I have used it, the school zone warning comes up but only within certain hours. later in the evenings it does not pop up. They must have time limits embedded in the program.
