Garmin DriveSmart 65 - Green Icons

Green icons with white hearts are displayed on the map screen with no way to remove them.

Garmin has started a case to correct this.

If you don't want these icons, contact Garmin support and add you name to the list. The more complaints the sooner the problem will be solved.

Would that

icon not represent some sort of "Favorite" ?

Yep ...

Should do, delete the favourite and it'll go away.

Another question

I hesitate to predict what these newer Garmin models do and don't do so I'll not make a prediction. Is it possible for the DriveSmart 65 to eliminate the Favorite icons by disabling a map layer? This would allow the Favorites still to be on the device but without the icons. If possible, does disabling the map layer also disable Custom POI icons added with POILoader?

I've tried and tried

I've tried and tried everything I know how to do on the 51/61 and now the 55/65, and you cannot get rid of that annoying green icon for Favorites/Saved Places. About the only thing you can do is not Save any places, just leave it in recents, and serch through that.

Youjust have to learn to live with it, I guess. Complain to Garmin. Make Feature suggestions. I don't know if it will do any good.

Garmin told me that there is no current fix. There have been enough complaints that a case has been started, and the engineers are working for a fix.

My contact said adding more complains would speed he process.

Does anyone know which models have this issue? It's a shame that the 'disabling a map layer' feature to disable the icons was removed from some newer devices.

I will confess that when I first experienced the large green hearts (on my 3597?), I found and disabled the icons but later enabled the layer again when I realized I missed my custom POI icons more than I disliked the green hearts for Favorites. I haven't even check my DriveLuxe 51 to see if they can be disabled.

Well

I quite like them, I don't have so many in one spot that it causes confusion and when I'm driving it often reminds me that I am close to a watering hole so can make the necessary detour smile

Icons

I like them.

I don't like not having an option for them to not display

I keep a large number of waypoints in my two GPS units.. the nuvi 3597 has the option to not display the green heart icons.. my Drive Assist 51LMT does not have the option.

With a large number of waypoints loaded, the massive display of the green icons in some areas covers up the far too much of the map. I have noticed that while on a route in the 51LMT if you select an green icon not part of the route, then exit out it turns off the display of all green icons until the gps does a route recompute, then they all come back.

I submited a report to Garmin support to PLEASE update the 51LMT to have the option for them to NOT display...

You may also just touch the

You may also just touch the map screen, then return to the map screen and the will disappear for a while. They will return the next time the map redraws.

Green icons, they're ok

I don't mind them at all. Probably because I don't have very many favorite places that are close together. But, it would be nice if there was a way to turn them off so I'll put in a complaint to Garmin to hopefully help you guys out.

At least for me, not a big issue

I remember that out of the box, my 2689 had a lot of these icons and I figured out how to turn off (by category) all but two. At the time a web search indicated you had to retain two by default, so I chose ATM's and gas stations, both of which I do use on occasion. These two don't clutter up the screen too much well outside the city limits of Philadelphia.

Small

Why, why, why, can't they merely be small?

Yes, why?

I wish they had an option to turn ALL icons into "small". And where you have a choice to select an icon... just give me a option of a dot in various colors.

Smaller, customizeable ICONs

I've wanted that for years also and to print the name (or at least 8 characters) of the icon as my early generation StreetPilot 2620 did... AND the icons in MapSource/BaseCamp also transferred to looked the same on my 2620...
