Garmin Nüvi 255w - Can it play a sound at the point of making a turn?

I'm torn between two GPS units. I have a Magellan N393M-4300 and a Garmin Nüvi 255w. I like that the voices and vehicle icons are customizable on the Garmin, as well as the speedometer and elevation meter.
I like that the Magellan has lane assist, shows the next two turns ahead. But I especially like that it plays a chime at the actual intersection where you make a turn.
Is there anyway to get the Nüvi to do something similar?

In my opinion, you need to

In my opinion, you need to get a newer Garmin. They have all that you ask, except the two turns.

I agree

I Agree. The 255W is over 10 years old. Hard to believe you can still find one for sale (at least a new one.).

To answer your question ...

I don't think there is any way to replace the voice prompt for a turn with a chime on the nuvi.

DriveSmart 50

I like the way it does give directions. Not only does it tell me about a turn coming up but it will also add "Turn at the stop sign" or "Turn at the traffic light".

There are other neat directions none of which my other Garmin's ever did do.

BTW: If you next turn after the first one is 5 miles down the road, who cares?

I bought the Magellan new.

I bought the Magellan new. The Garmin I found at a thrift store new in the box for $5. I bought it to have his-and-hers GPS. Over time I started liking experimenting with the icons and voices and started using it.
I later found a working Garmin 1300 on top of a trash bin (minus the 12v cord) and kept it too. One day I might work up the nerve to install MioPocket on the Magellan.
For the amount of traveling I do they're more than adequate. Though I'd love to stick them in a room and have them mate and produce a better GPS with the features of both. wink

Actually my ancient Nuvi 770 gives direction for two turns if they are one right after another. It sound like that: "turn left and than turn right".

My 2460 does the same thing if the turns are real close.

Some of the latest models have what you call Garmin Real Directions and Garmin Real Voice. A big change ,then what you have on the Nuvi 255. No chime though. Yes

And sometimes it is confusing as heck !!!!! Does that mean "IMMEDIATELY" or a few hundred feet down the road???

My 2797 and 3790 do that and I think the 855. The Smart Drive 50 gives more concise directions!

But

I doubt the GPS technology is accurate enough to give you a "ding" at the precise spot you need to turn. Could well end up taking out a fire hydrant if you turned at the "ding".
