Map update error message on Garmin DriveSmart 61

Hello friends

I installed new maps Garmin CN NA 2020.20 last night on all three models (DriveSmart 61, NuviCam and 3597). When I install maps on DriveSmart device, it always gives error message at the end of map install with red bar at the top. The message is something like map installation failed. This this second map install on this device since I purchased it and get error both times. But when I check maps version on the device, they are new maps. Not sure what is the issue.

Has anyone else had same issue with this model? I will appreciate your feedback or advice.

Nope

No problems with the 2797, SmartDrive 50 or the 855.
Still have to do the 3790.

Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for your feedback. Maybe I should contact Garmin Support? There is no error code so it is very hard to know what is wrong. There is enough disk space as well.

i get that message often

Weird thing is it _appears_ that the install to device and to computer actually happens.

Since i primarily use my phone for navigation, i hadn't bothered to chase it down.

Feature files?

It is possible that the map itself is getting installed correctly, but something has failed in installing one or more of the "feature" files such as the ASR, SID, JCV, etc. The only way you can know for sure is if you know someone with your same model device that doesn't get the update error. Then you can compare the files between the two units to make sure everything matches.

The DriveSmart 61 has the wi-fi update option doesn't it (where you don't have to use Garmin Express)? If so, you might try updating that unit without using Express to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your advice. I was suspecting something wrong with Garmin Express. Yes, DriveSmart 61 has wifi feature but it is very slow. It is not a good idea to update maps with wifi. It is good for small software updates but not for map updates. I tried onetime and it was very slow and had to cancel it.

So today, I uninstalled Garmin Express from my laptop and then re-download it and installed it. Then added my DriveSmart device into it and selected map re-install. This time no error on Garmin Express at the end.

Looks like this fixed the issue.

I'm glad you had a good result. I just want to point out that I can easily park my truck close enough to my router that I can just as easily update with wifi as I can with Garmin Express. That may be true for others too.

yesterday

I updated my GArmin 61 yesterday- It took forever as the Garmin express needed updates and it was being blocked by my Antivirus and anti Malware programs... Glad you found a fix

I updated two DS61 units

I updated two DS61 units this morning, about a half hour each via USB and GE, while it say next to my router.

No problems.

FWIW I did two 2460s the same way, slightly longer to do but I attribute that to time of day, again no problems. Still have two Zumoes to go, they are a pain because they are old and have to be split between the unit and an SD card.

DS61 had 2 software updates and the map
2460 had 4 software updates and the map
The Zumos (459 & 500) are only showing the map.

DS61 owners, do you find wifi download extremely slow?
It is very slow on mine. So I do not attempt wifi map updates anymore.

Yes I tried to do the update via wifi once, it was pretty slow compared to hooked into the PC. I have a decent high speed connection and generally I find my wifi connected devices are a tad over half the speed of the wired PC.
