lest we forget

 

75 years ago today Operation Overlord began with the landing of allied troops on beaches in the Normandy region of France. We all owe a great deal to those soldiers, sailors, airmen and others that laid down their lives that day. I, for one, am proud of each of those men and remember that while all gave some, some gave all.

Very moving commemoration at Juno beach

I watched the live commemoration broadcast at Juno Beach, where 14,000 Canadian soldiers came ashore on D-Day.

359 Canadians died and 700 others were wounded or captured.

Very moving watching the proceedings and watching these veterans.

My father..

..was there on D-Day. He was a man of few words as to what happened then and afterwards. These men (and women), of the armed services, were the greatest of the great. I have the utmost respect for anyone who served during this time in our nations history. Job well done!!

Unfortunately many have forgot

I believe what we fought for and why. These men and women who went to fight a battle many probably knew little about but accepted their country needed to fight this fight. Many gave their lives. Sadly too many probably don't know why or the ramifications if we hadn't gone to war.
